PRIDE & GLORY…Yes, that band led by Zakk Wylde. I’m sorry to come out of nowhere, but I would like to make a confession. I was never a huge fan of PRIDE & GLORY. I didn’t know much about the songs and listened to this live album simply because it was Zack from Ozzy’s band. However, the awesomeness of the song and the lyrics of “Ozzy’s…” blows away, and it doesn’t matter what kind of song he’s playing, it’s a song that just leaves you feeling overwhelmed and thinking, “This is rock, and this is what it’s all about.” It was… It started out a bit strange, but this work is PRIDE & GLORY’s desk-mounted soundboard album, which was realized on November 7, 1994 at Osaka Archaic Hall. This is a sound source released as “MACHINE GUN OSAKA” over 10 years ago. The sound is horribly direct desk recording. The loud cheers can only be heard faintly in the distance, and Zack’s guitar and vocals are played at the level of a “brain plug-in.” Of course, Zack is not the only one who stands out, the entire trio ensemble, including the bass and drums, are super direct and have a wonderful balance. If you overdub the cheers here, it will definitely be the official live version, and it will be the best one. Such a sound directly connected to the brain is amazing, but even more than that is the live performance itself. The ensemble performed by the three members is a storm of wild rock dynamism. Zack doesn’t care about sensitivity or crying, and yet he doesn’t lean toward heaviness like later BLACK LABEL SOCIETY. John DeSavio’s bass roars as if he were playing the catchy riff work of the Ozzy Band era, wildly and boldly, and Brian Tichy’s groovy drumming is amazing. The three rough ropes collide and tie together, unravel and then intertwine, making it the very embodiment of a “rock band.” The set list includes 11 songs from the album “PRIDE & GLORY” plus covers of BLACK SABBATH’s “Fairies Wear Boots” and “War Pigs.” As I wrote at the beginning, I didn’t really remember the songs, but each of the rock songs was full of persuasive power and dynamism that made you think twice about what kind of song it was. What are we looking for when we go to live shows and listen to live albums? If you just want to listen to your favorite songs, you can listen to both studio masterpieces and best-of albums. If you want to see your favorite artist shine, you can watch their PV or photo book, or you can get closer to them by following them. However, live performances are different from those. “Live performance” is a series of sounds that disappear as soon as they are born, never to be repeated again. The “power”, “awesomeness”, and “breath” that come from the players colliding with each other and interacting with each other like a conversation is what creates the “power”, “awesomeness”, and “breath”. Live shows are amazing and interesting because you can experience that, and you want to listen to them over and over again. Even if you don’t know a single song or the names of the members of a band, you’ve probably had the experience of being knocked out after one live performance. This work is a live album that brings out that superlative experience. It has been 21 years since the live performance, and the press album has been sold out for a long time, but the sound, music, and live performance packed into this work still shine. For those who stopped their eyes at this nonsense and thought, “Oh, PRIDE & GLORY. That’s nostalgic,” I would like to say, “It’s even more outrageous and wild than that album.” If you’re thinking, “Zack only knows Ozzy…”, I’d like to say, “It’s amazing even if you don’t know.” For those who are simply looking for “the best rock,” I want to shout out loud, “This is it!” Live at Archaic Hall, Osaka, Japan 7th November 1994 STEREO SBD(from Original Masters) Disc 1 1.
