A new excellent master recording of the first day’s performance at the Tokyo Budokan in 1988 will be released by LEM. The master is an original 120-minute cassette tape that is not available anywhere, provided by the recorder. The sound quality is not as good as the previously released “THE GREAT GIG IN THE BUDOKAN”, which was recorded with the highest sound quality ever, but it is recorded with a quality that is more than enough for listening. Looking at the ticket that came with the tape, the recording location was 25th row E on the 1st floor west, and although the sound image itself feels a little distant, it is a high-quality recording that gives a sense of spread and freshness. The echo of the cheers of the audience, which feels like it’s inside the Budokan, is also the best as a document. The musical sounds themselves are recorded with direct sound, so you can tell that they were recorded with a good quality microphone. The first day of Floyd’s first performance in Japan in 16 years. The overwhelming sound output from the PA and the realistic feeling that conveys the excitement and tension of the audience who say, “I’m watching Pink Floyd!” are irresistible. The actual concert lasted 2 hours and 30 minutes including the encore, and the 120-minute cassette tape could not capture the entire concert, including the encore, but for Floyd collectors, the new master of the Japanese performance is well worth adding to their collection. This is a valuable document that tells us what the legendary Budokan live performance sounded like from the stands.
