Description
“A MOMENTARY LAPSE OF REASON TOUR 1988” was realized 30 years ago, and was unfortunately the last visit to Japan. The legendary recording that vacuum-packed the scene has been brushed up. The scene of the legendary recording is “March 4, 5, and 6, 1988: National Yoyogi Stadium”. This work is a super-excellent audience recording set for those three days. Yes, it is an expanded and complete version of that miraculous masterpiece “SIGNS OF LIVES”. First of all, let’s check the composition with the tour schedule at that time.・March 2nd: Nippon Budokan ・March 3rd: Nippon Budokan ・March 4th: National Yoyogi Stadium [Disc 1-2] ・March 5th: National Yoyogi Stadium [Disc 3-4] ・March 6th: National Yoyogi Stadium [Disc 5-6] ・March 8th: Osaka Castle Hall ・March 9th: Osaka Castle Hall ・March 11th: Nagoya Rainbow Hall In this way, the National Yoyogi Stadium was performed for three consecutive days. This work is a set that completely records the whole story. To introduce this work, we must first talk about “SIGNS OF LIVES”. This masterpiece, which appeared in 2010, was a real shock. It was made into a CD directly from a master cassette by a famous recording artist who has left many historical recordings such as Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Mick Jagger, and the Stones, but the sound was abnormal. As this was his first visit to Japan in 16 years, various recordings have appeared, but the quality is so incredible that it sweeps away all the previously released groups. Boasting a clear and on-touch feel worthy of being called “like a sound board,” it is a sound world that exudes aesthetics and elegance, which is on a different level from the line recordings that have been stripped bare. The incredible sound left enthusiasts all over the world astounded, and they were in a frenzy, asking, “Is this really a recording from the 1980s?” and “What kind of microphone did they use? I’ll buy it too.” The magnitude of the impact is clearly shown by the comments in the specialist magazines at the time. Let’s quote some of them. “This sound quality can only be described as ‘amazing.’ This is the result of the organic interaction of the equipment, cassette, and recording position, as well as the skill of the taper. If you listen to the intro of the opening Shine On, you will notice the overwhelming difference not only from the previously released sound sources, but also from all the audience recordings recorded during this period. I can’t find the right words to describe it. In this way, it caused such an emotional reaction that there were no beautiful words to be arranged. However, this masterpiece only included the first and second days of the three days. The third day was also recorded at the same level, but it was released under a different title, “SIGNS OF EVERLIFE”. This work is a complete version of the three performances remastered. In “SIGNS OF LIVES” and “SIGNS OF EVERLIFE”, the first and second parts of the show were divided into discs, so one show = 3 discs, and it could not be made into one set. However, since that time, there have been many voices saying, “The third disc is only 17 minutes of encore, so I don’t listen to it much.” Therefore, in this work, one show = 2 discs each, and the three days are completely recorded on a 6-disc set. Of course, it is not just a reappearance. It was re-digitized from the original cassette and brushed up with the latest and meticulous mastering. It has achieved an even clearer and more dynamic sound. It is more powerful, but of course there is no unnecessary sound pressure. The concept of the mastering is “on-site reproduction”. Although it is easy to push the peak of a musical sound, it is not so, but rather, the beauty of the sound of the original sound is maximized. Each range is organized while paying close attention to avoid distortion. Achieved a balance between a clear core, a hall feeling, and a wide spectacle. The sound is drawn with FLOYD’s acoustic sense. Just to be sure, the echo was never thickened. Rather, the performance sounds and singing voices that were once said to be “How did you record in that wide space!?” are even more vivid. On top of that, it boasts a transparent beauty even to the luster of the space that could only be left because it was an audience recording, which is impossible with line recording. It accurately reproduced the feeling of standing on the “site” that existed 30 years ago. The Yoyogi Olympic Pool, which was the core of the Japan tour, was a three-day event. That site became one crystallization. The truth of the miracle recording tape is in “SIGNS OF LIVES” and “SIGNS OF EVERLIFE”, and its value remains unshakable to this day. However, when you place emphasis on the “scene” rather than the “value of the recording”, this work shines brightly. This rare six-disc set reproduces the vibe of 1988 as it was at the time, which was possible only because of the miracle recording.
