Description

The legendary masterpiece “SMOKING BLUES”, which reigned as a classic with its unusual high quality and attracted attention again with the discovery of the “Victor recording” in 2009, is now available as an upgraded version transferred from the original master. Speaking of “SMOKING BLUES”, it is a legendary record that appeared in 1995 when CD bootlegs were rapidly developing, and was a masterpiece that was traded as a soundboard or related recording due to its high sound quality. Its true identity is an audience recording by a person called “Victor”. It was recorded using a West German portable deck “UHER 4200” and the famous “Sennheiser MD-421” microphone. This fact was discovered in 2009 when a recording of the first day of Montreux (November 21, 1970) by Victor was unearthed. Related titles such as “VICTOR’S MONTREUX”, “TOO LATE FOR MIND EXPANDING”, “MONTREUX 1970 DAY 1 RECORDER 1” and “TOO EARLY FOR A GIG” blossomed, and in the process of verification, facts such as “famous work XX was recorded by Victor” and “◇ songs were recorded on different days” were revealed. In the analysis, “SMOKING BLUES” attracted attention again. The reason is that “you can listen to all of the Victor recordings from the second day of Montreux”. In the first place, the Montreux performances were “November 21 (first day)” and “November 22 (second day)”, and Victor recorded on both days. However, later, the playback device broke and it was not possible to transfer everything, so the performance dates of each track became unclear. So what is the status of the existing Victor recordings? Let’s omit the process of updating the information and summarize the “current conclusion”. Montreux Day 1 (November 21st): All 11 songs from “MONTREUX 1970 DAY 1 RECORDER 1” Montreux Day 2 (November 22nd): About half of “SMOKING BLUES” (4 songs: Astronomy Domine/Fat Old Sun/Atom Heart Mother/Cymbaline)… That’s how it is. Although the first day of Montreux was available in full length, only 4 songs from the second day are available. Now, “SMOKING BLUES” was actually a compilation by Victor himself. He himself was not sure which was the first or second day, and he edited it to fit on a 90-minute cassette. That’s a long introduction. This work is the original master of “SMOKING BLUES”. To be precise, it is a young generation version transferred from “DAT that copied the Victor-produced cassette”. As you can see from the tracklist below, the contents are the same as “SMOKING BLUES”: “DISC 1 = 2nd day (4 songs)” + “DISC 2 = 1st day (3 songs)”. The focus is on “Montreux 2nd day (DISC 1 of this work)”, where the sound that updates the highest peak is permanently preserved. In fact, the sound is the best ever. When the Victor recording on the first day was unearthed, it was said that “SMOKING BLUES is a copy that has passed through a generation,” but this work digitizes the best possible young gene master without processing. Not only is it obviously fresh, but it is overwhelmingly natural. “SMOKING BLUES” had a powerful boost to the bass, but this work is beautiful in every corner even when the band plays at full force. And the freshness of the young gene master can be felt even on the first day part (DISC 2). As mentioned above, a long master was unearthed on the first day in 2009, and the brushed-up version “MONTREUX 1970 DAY 1 RECORDER 1” was also very popular. Although it is not possible to claim that it “transcends that super beautiful sound!”, it is definitely close. Of course, it certainly surpasses the traditional album “SMOKING BLUES”. You can enjoy the original sound of the music that Victor himself created with the thought “I want everyone to hear”. This is the original version of the legendary masterpiece “SMOKING BLUES” and is a 2-CD set that permanently preserves “the best ever Victor recording on the second day”. This is a superb audience recording of the “Montreux performance on November 21st and 22nd, 1970”. This is a masterpiece among masterpieces that was digitized from the original master of the legendary masterpiece “SMOKING BLUES”, which was once traded as a sound board. This master is a newly excavated “DAT that copied the 90-minute cassette produced by Victor”, that is, it was made by the recorder himself. The composition is “DISC 1 = second day (4 songs) / DISC 2 = first day (3 songs)”, and the recording on the second day (DISC 1) is especially must-listen. The Victor recordings on sale on the second day contain these four songs, and you can enjoy them in the best sound available today.
