Description

Following the highly popular “KYOTO 1972”, the iconic live album from the 1972 visit to Japan has also been upgraded. The longest-ever composition and meticulous mastering by “GRAF ZEPPELIN” have created a definitive album worthy of the 50th anniversary. The iconic work is recorded on the “March 13, 1972: Sapporo Nakajima Sports Center” performance. It is the longest and highest peak audience recording. First of all, as always, let’s check the position of this work on the schedule for the visit to Japan.・March 6th “ECLIPSE OF THE SUN (Tokyo)” ・March 7th “DEFINITIVE TOKYO 1972 2ND NIGHT” ・March 8th “DEFINITIVE OSAKA 1972 1ST NIGHT” ・March 9th “ASSORTED LUNATICS (Osaka)” ・March 10th “KYOTO 1972: 50th Anniversary Edition” ・March 13th: Sapporo Nakajima Sports Center ←★This work★ *Only representative works on each day. All 6 performances. The Sapporo performance of this work is the final performance. It was also Floyd’s last live in Japan in the ’70s. The reason this show became a symbol of his visit to Japan in 1972 is that more than its position, it left a great recording. In particular, the stereo recording known for the legendary board “COLD FRONT” that appeared in the early ’90s took the world by storm with its non-standard high quality sound. This is not the “best of this day” but the “best of the 1972 visit to Japan”, and it has raised the value of the show itself to the point that it is said, “If the first visit to Japan was Hakone, the second visit was Sapporo”. What’s more, the “COLD FRONT” recording is still reigning supreme even now, more than 30 years after its discovery. Of course, other recordings have been unearthed over the years, but they have not been able to surpass the “COLD FRONT” recording (in terms of sound). So is the “COLD FRONT” recording still the ultimate today? No. No matter how great a recording is, it can never be perfect in the analog era, and the “COLD FRONT” recording was no exception. “Echoes” and “Atom Heart Mother” from the second half of the show were not recorded, and there are also gaps such as tape changes. What other sound sources can be used to fill in these parts and beautifully finish them off? This perspective has created the superiority and inferiority of each title and has built up a history of upgrades. And this work will reach its peak in 2022, the 50th anniversary of the show. What is the content of this work? In order to explain it, let’s organize the sound source situation of the 1972 Sapporo performance here. ・Recorder 1: Stereo recording that appeared in the highest sound quality “COLD FRONT”. “Sapporo 1972: Direct Reel Master”, which was digitized directly from the reel master a few years ago, is the highest sound quality and longest recording of Rec1 to date, and is the main one in this work. ・Recorder 2: The only recording that recorded “Echoes”. There are several system differences between traders. ・Recorder 3: The only recording of “Atom Heart Mother”. → The basic structure of this work = “Recorder 1 + Echoes of R2 + Atom Heart Mother of R3” … and it is like this. However, up to this point, it is just the basics. It was the same with the conventional version. This work has the highest accuracy from here on. The key song is “Brain Damage”. There is a cut from the middle of the 2-minute range to the middle of the 3-minute range, and this work is complemented with “Recorder 2”. It is the first seamless complete form in history. Some people may think, “First time in history? It was also complemented on the Godfather version?” That is also correct, but in fact the master used for complementation on the Godfather version had a (slight) chip. From here on, it gets even more complicated, so please read it with that in mind. As mentioned above, in fact, there are different systems of the same recording on “Recorder 2”. The best sound (let’s call it the A system) is famous and widely distributed, and it is half common sense to use the “A system” for complementation. The “Echoes” in this work also uses the “A system”. However, there was a chip in the “Brain Damage” of this “A system”, and that part happened to hit the 1-minute part of the complement. The cause of this is also a quirk. It seems that the “A system” itself was edited by combining “Recorder 2” in different states, and it hit that editing point. Here we will introduce another system of “Recorder 2” (we will call it the B system). This is not very well known because it has a (slightly) more modest sound quality than the A system, but thankfully there are no editing marks in the corresponding part used for compensation. That is why this “B system” is used to complement “Brain Damage” in this work. It has become a very nitpicky story, but that is also because this work aims for high precision. Naturally, this precision is not just one point but the whole work, and the treatment by “GRAF ZEPPELIN” is overwhelming. The pitch and phase shift are corrected for each of the three sources (strictly speaking, four types, since R2 is two types), and the rotation unevenness, balance adjustment for each band, and noise processing are also thoroughly carried out. Of course, there is no point in making new editing marks, so the texture adjustment assuming connection is also meticulously paid attention to, and the discomfort of the connection is minimized. The legendary recording of Sapporo, which was even said to be “the symbol of the 1972 visit to Japan”. This is the definitive album that was created by meticulously working on the perfection appropriate for the “50th anniversary answer”. Not only the different recordings, but also the different generations and systems were verified, and this two-disc set has updated the longest and highest peak as a full live album ever. This is the first two-disc set in Sapporo ’72! ! This sound quality and content will definitely sell out in a short time! ! Full audience recording of the “March 13, 1972: Sapporo Nakajima Sports Center” performance. Based on the current best reel direct master of the legendary recording called “The best of the 1972 visit to Japan”, supplemented with other recordings. The supplementary parts were also verified to be different generations and systems, and “Brain Damage”, which had a very slight chipping in the previous version, was successfully made completely seamless for the first time in history. It is the longest and highest peak sound full live album in history, suitable for the 50th anniversary.
