Description

PINK FLOYD’s first Osaka performance was realized 51 years ago today. The legendary record that tells the story of the scene is reprinted. It will be permanently preserved with renewed artwork. Of course, what is recorded in this work is the “August 9, 1971: Osaka Festival Hall” performance. It is the symbolic audience recording. The existence of the show and the recording is now too legendary, a treasure of Japanese Western music history. The existing groups such as “OSAKA 1971: A NEW TAPE TRANSFER” and “UNPROCESSED OSAKA 1971” have been widely and deeply loved. The ultimate form of it was “OSAKA 1971: 50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION” released last year. Its ultimate quality shocked the collector world excited by the 50th anniversary, and it sold out and went out of print in an instant. It has disappeared from history like a phantom. However, such an ultimate board should not be a bubble existence. This work is a 2CD reprint for those who missed out on the 50th anniversary edition or found out about it later. In fact, they tried to remaster it when they reprinted it. However, the content was too perfect. Of course, it is easy to change the sound balance even slightly and call it a “new version”, but even if it is slightly different, it could not be “surpassed”. Since subtle corrections have been made to the track division position, etc., it is not strictly a “2nd” version, but it is almost the same content and is permanently preserved. What is the content of the ultimate version that has reached the dimension of “it can’t be any more”? Let’s take a look back once again. Precision transfer of the highest peak 2nd generation DAT master again This work pursues “extreme” from the material first. The material is the same 2nd generation DAT master as “UNPROCESSED OSAKA 1971”, which has reigned as the “best” for 50 years. Of course, it is not a reuse of “UNPROCESSED OSAKA 1971”. It goes back to the original DAT master and transfers it flat again. It was carefully and precisely re-recorded with 2021 high-end equipment. The effect is tremendous. When “UNPROCESSED OSAKA 1971” was released, the clear transparency, drastically reduced hiss, and the powerful directness of the performance sound became a big topic, but this work retains those merits while further improving the accuracy of the transfer. All the notes are different throughout the entire work, but the easiest to understand is the stereo feeling. For example, “Atom Heart Mother”. In the previous best “UNPROCESSED OSAKA 1971”, the left channel was a little off, and the balance was biased to the right. However, this transfer does not have such unstable parts. Even in “Atom Heart Mother”, the left channel is fully picked up, and the legendary scene is reproduced in a balanced and accurate way. After reproducing the sound stored in the 2nd Generation DAT, which is the latest mastering technology in 2021 that has increased the sense of stability to the limit, the process of polishing it with meticulous mastering is carried out. Of course, there is no unnecessary sound pressure or flashy equalization (if they did, the flat transfer would be ruined). Instead, the pitch and stability are improved. You may think, “Isn’t this the usual procedure?” but the precision is unprecedented. The tape twist, which has been a fate until now, has been thoroughly corrected. If you have “UNPROCESSED OSAKA 1971” at hand, please try playing it. You will notice that the acoustic guitar in the intro of the opening “Green Is The Colour” sounds beautiful, while the notes are subtly close and wavy. This work is very stable in this slight shaking. Of course, it is not just the start that is fixed and deceived. On the other hand, if you take the end of the album as an example, the second half of “Mystery” from 15 minutes onwards would be good. The mysterious keyboard envelops the Festival Hall in a majestic mood, but the high-pitched long notes are so easy to understand that the shaking is cruel. Conventional versions have been shaking finely and continuously, but this work is crisp. This effect changes the nuances of the performance, and even the scenery that the sound depicts. Visually speaking, the “mystery” of the conventional board evokes a monochrome world like ink painting or a record film. In contrast, this work is in full color. It is a majestic sound world, like a gold-shining pipe organ in a church pouring down. With each new excavation of the master and transfer of new technology, I have been impressed that “Osaka in 1971 was so wonderful.” The state that the journey of exploration has reached after 50 years of study. That is this work. Here is the highest master freshness ever, and unprecedented reproducibility and stability. This work is the very path of the culture of “audience recording” and “vintage record archive”, and is also the cutting edge of its evolution. It is a sound world that could only be born because we Japanese have loved PINK FLOYD for 50 years, and it is the first cultural heritage of the world. The finest audience recording of the legendary first visit to Japan “Festival Hall performance on August 9, 1971”. This is a reprint of the masterpiece’s 50th anniversary edition. The best 2nd generation DAT master has been re-transferred with precision and meticulously mastered to create the highest peak update. While retaining the beauty of the 2nd master with little hiss and a great natural feel, the stereo balance of “Atom Heart Mother”, where the left channel was slightly off, and the sound distortion (wow and flutter) of the entire work have been thoroughly improved. You can enjoy the legendary Osaka performance with the highest peak sound achieved by half a century of master quest and the latest technology.
