Description

One of the most legendary recordings representing the “MEDDLE Tour” has been upgraded. The legendary recording is the “November 6, 1971 Cleveland Performance”. It is an audience recording that has told the whole story. Speaking of 1971, the excitement of Hakone, which celebrated its 50th anniversary, is still fresh in my memory, but that was the “Atom Heart Mother” tour. In contrast, this work is the “Meddle” tour. In order to organize the situation around that, let’s look at the schedule at that time. “ATOM HEART MOTHER World Tour”《January: Production of “Osekkai” begins》・January 17th-February 27th/April 3rd-July 1st: Europe #1 (28 performances)・August 6th-15th: Japan/Australia (5 performances)《August: “Osekkai” completed》・September 18th-30th: Europe #2 (5 performances)《October 4th-7th: Filmed in Pompeii》・October 10th+11th: UK (2 performances)“MEDDLE Tour”・October 15th-31st: North America #1a (11 performances)《October 31st: “Osekkai” released》・November 2nd-20th: North America #1b (16 performances)←★Here★・December 26th: Appearance at Beat Club 【The highest peak master of the legendary recording that has conveyed the Osekkai tour】This is PINK FLOYD in 1971. They started working on “Osekkai” at the beginning of the year, completed the album in August, and filmed a movie in Pompeii in October. “MEDDLE Tour” was the US tour that followed immediately after. The Cleveland performance of this work was the fifth performance of “North America # 1b” (the 16th performance overall in North America # 1), one week after the release of “Osekkai”. Such shows have long been known for their famous recordings. Various titles such as “CLEVELAND 1971” and “ACUTE DANGER” have reigned as standard. This work is not a re-polishing of such a traditional master. While the recording itself is the same, it is an upgraded version that surpasses previous masters. The highest peak before this work would be “CLEVELAND 1971”, but the difference is clear. It was released online as “Omoto Master or Extremely Young Gen”, but its beauty is shocking. There is no distortion of that overpeak (!). As those who have experienced the conventional version will know, this distortion was considered to be the fate of Cleveland recording. Even the original master previously had distortion, and it was even thought to be a characteristic of the recording. However, this new master does not have that. That distortion was generated during the dubbing and distribution process… a sound that overturns even such previous perceptions has emerged. That “one extra step” is precise monauralization. This is a bit complicated, so let’s explain it in detail. Originally, this recording was “recorded in mono on stereo tape.” In other words, the same sound is recorded on the left and right channels. This is common in vintage recordings, but this results in two masters being recorded on one tape. And with such stereo tapes, differences arise between the left and right channels due to deterioration over time. Normally, a channel in good condition is used as a base and the other is used as a complement, but this work is a little different. Both the left and right channels were in equally good condition and had a great sound throughout. Therefore, in this work, the left and right channels are fully matrixed. As a result, even if a slight high drop occurs in one channel, the other will supplement it and a stable sound will be seamlessly maintained throughout the entire work. Of course, this is a method that cannot be used if damage or noise occurs in either channel, but it was possible in this work. Of course, this is not just a simple overlap of the left and right channels. This is also a common thing with vintage masters, but the left and right phases are slightly out of sync. If you overlap them as they are, the sound will go out of sync and it will cause muddiness. Therefore, this work accurately adjusts the pitch of each channel and performs precise phase alignment when overlapping. It was possible to beautifully reproduce the sound as it was recorded on site. “The Embryo”, which will not be played at the end of this tour, “One Of These Days”, which has just been included in the set, and the iconic big song “Echoes”, etc. There is no need to allocate more characters to the wonderfulness of the “MEDDLE Tour”. This is a new master that allows you to experience such a show with the sound as it is on site. The best audience recording of the “Cleveland performance on November 6, 1971”. This is a traditional recording that represents the “MEDDLE Tour”, but this work is not a previously released mastering but a new upgraded master. It was released online as “the original master or an extremely young generation (Master or Low Gen)”, and it is the highest peak sound without the over-peak distortion that seemed to be the fate of the conventional version. Of course, not only the distortion but also the direct feeling and the fineness of the details are equal to or better than the conventional best “CLEVELAND 1971”. This is a supreme live album in which such original sounds are precisely adjusted in pitch and phase and permanently preserved. (Remastering memo) It is the same source as the previous version, but the master with a different branch (credited as Master or Low Gen). The point is that there is no distortion of the level over that was seen throughout the previous version. The freshness is the same as the previous Raw Master, and there is no distortion, so this is the best at the moment. (By the way, Y! also has a version released by Neonkinght, but it dropped sharply above 15khz.) Since it was originally recorded in mono, the left and right channels were mixed to make it mono. There is no phase shift or distortion of one channel like the previous release. There is some EQ processing, but almost no increase in sound pressure, so it sounds calmer than the previous release, which had a high-pitched sound.
