Description
PINK FLOYD opened the door to progressive rock all over the world with the masterpiece “Atom Heart Mother”. A special version of the FM soundboard that symbolizes that time has been decided to be released. This work contains the “September 30, 1971 London performance”. It is a stereo soundboard recording recorded at the BBC’s “Paris Theater”. FM broadcasting has been a famous classic for a long time, but the key point of this work is the “special version” mentioned at the beginning. Before the details, let’s start with the position of the show. Speaking of 1971, it was a time when the “ATOM HEART MOTHER Tour” and “MEDDLE Tour” were switched depending on the time, and there were a lot of historical events such as the legendary first visit to Japan and “Live at Pompeii”. First, let’s take a bird’s-eye view of the activity overview. “ATOM HEART MOTHER Tour”《January: Production of “Osekkai” begins》・January 17th – February 27th: Europe #1 (10 shows)・April 3rd – July 1st: Europe #2 (18 shows)・August 6th – 15th: Japan / Australia (5 shows)《August: “Osekkai” completed》・September 18th – 30th: Europe #3 (5 shows)←★Here★《October 4th – 7th: Filmed in Pompeii》・October 10th + 11th: UK (2 shows)“MEDDLE Tour”・October 15th – 31st: North America #1a (11 shows)《October 31st: “Osekkai” released》・November 2nd – 20th: North America #1b (16 shows)・December 26th: Appearance at Beat Club This is PINK FLOYD in 1971. The Paris Theater performance of this work was a few days before the famous “Live at Pompeii” was filmed. It was the final day of the “Europe #3” concert. This show is also famous for being broadcast by the prestigious BBC, and two types are known, “mono version” and “stereo version”. It is often misunderstood, but these two types are not different mixes. Stereo broadcasting was also widespread in the United States and other countries in the early 1970s, but BBC was still based on mono. Therefore, when BBC recorded live, it was recorded in two groups, a “mono group” for domestic broadcasting and a “stereo group” for overseas broadcasting, and the former “mono version” was mixed on site. In contrast, the latter “stereo version” was mixed in the BBC editing room at a later date and sent overseas. This work is the latter “stereo version”, but there is a point here. Until now, the best master of the overseas broadcast version (stereo version) was the transcription disc (LP) produced by BBC, and “BBC 1970/1971” was also this. However, this work is not based on a transcription LP. It was created from a 7.5-inch reel master produced by the BBC for the US “RKO Radio Network”. It was produced directly from an 8-track multi, and the sound is sealed without cutting or stamping. In fact, this reel is also used in the big set “THE COMPLETE BBC ARCHIVES VOL.2 1971-1974” to be released this week. That one has been edited to be in line with the actual show, with an emphasis on the completeness of the live album, but this work is the reel master itself. There are no supplements for the inserted US commercials or the slightly cut “One Of These Days”. You can enjoy the truth of the legendary master in the style of the broadcast itself. In addition to the reel master, this work also includes two bonus songs from the same day, “The Embryo” and “Blues”. This was broadcast only once on the New York radio station “WNEW-FM”. This broadcast included “The Embryo” and “Blues,” which were not included in the transcription LP or reel master. The former “The Embryo” stereo version is the only one in this take, and the latter “Blues” is not even included in the domestic mono broadcast version. It is truly a phantom take that was released only once. Since it is a major standard broadcast, the live content will be omitted, but the familiar stage is a reel master version that sounds completely different. If you want to enjoy it as a music work, including the two bonus songs, we recommend “THE COMPLETE BBC ARCHIVES VOL.2”, but this work is one that touches on the truth of the precious master. A famous FM soundboard from the “Meddle” era has been released. A masterpiece digitized from an extremely valuable reel master produced by the BBC. The bonus “The Embryo” and “Blues” are also recorded in extremely rare stereo versions that were broadcast only once.
