Description

From the first North American tour in 1972, the second day of the tour, Florida’s Hollywood performance, has been almost completely recorded by combining two existing sound sources. This performance has not been booted, but in the collector’s world, there is “Recorder 1”, which recorded all the main set except the encore Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun with high-quality audience recording, and the incomplete version “Recorder 2” which recorded the second half of “Madness” (after Us And Them) and the second half of the show except One Of These Days, and the encore “Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun” which can only be heard here (the sound quality of “Recorder 1” is superior). Therefore, this board has realized the first full song recording and longest version by connecting the missing Echoes intro and outro MC, and Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun to “Recorder 1”, which has excellent sound quality and almost complete recording of the main set. Of course, the pitch of both sound sources is accurately corrected. The good-sounding “Recorder 1” was famous, but “Recorder 2” was rare, and most people probably heard Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun for the first time. “Recorder 2” is less clear than “Recorder 1” and has a modest sound image, but the sound quality is not bad at all, and the sound freshness, localization (phase correction was done independently this time) and condition are very good, so you can listen to it with confidence. The main “Recorder 1” uses a stereo take called 1st Gen, which is reminiscent of a recording made just near the stage. The sound quality is very good, and the performance itself is to the right, but the soft analog sound has an excellent atmosphere, and it is a great recording that allows you to hear the details of the performance. Speak To Me is recorded for about the first 10 seconds, and Breathe is recorded as a cut-in. (You can hear the tape creaking at 2:22.) There was equipment trouble at the beginning of the performance on this day, and in addition, it was the beginning of the North American tour, so the performance gave the impression that it was not over, and the content was not very good. At the start of Breathe, Gilmour’s guitar was clearly out of tune and he immediately withdrew, and from then on, it was just the three of them playing until halfway through the song (Wright did his best). They recovered after that, but the concert somehow ended up being disappointing. It was a performance far from the masterpieces they showed on their UK and Japan tour from January to March, but they performed such a great live show in Columbia the next day, so you never know what a band is like. However, as a record, it is a first-class product and is definitely a “must-have” recording for fans, and I hope you will take this opportunity to add it to your collection as the best and longest version.
