Description

In New York on April 22, 1970, a must-have title for fans has appeared that completely recorded the Port Chester performance for 2 hours and 32 minutes with the best audience recording. A Saucerful Of Secrets, which was only recorded for 2 minutes and 42 seconds, is recorded in full for 19 minutes and 50 seconds (23 minutes and 37 seconds including the sound check after the performance), and also includes the 18-minute encore Interstellar Overdrive. Therefore, the recording is 40 minutes long in total. It is recorded with the same sound as the master take without any equalization (the old version was equalized, so the overall sound (especially the bass) is a bit loud and noisy, and the sound image lacks a natural feel.), and is currently in the best condition. You can enjoy the Port Chester performance. On this day, Cymbaline was the longest performance in history at 16 minutes 30 seconds, Embryo was 14 minutes 48 seconds, the fourth longest in history, and Careful With That Ax, Eugene was 13 minutes, the third longest performance in 1970. You can listen to long performances. Similar to the Fillmore West performance on April 29th, one week after the main performance, the opening performance was the folk-tinged Grantchester Meadows, which started with the birdsong S.E., and then took a turn and aggressively excited the audience with Astronomy Domine. You can listen to what’s going on. The crystal-clear sound is truly wonderful, and you can feel the splendor of the master quality. Astronomy Domine After the show, Roger explains to the people watching on the second floor about the lack of sound equipment on the second floor and asks them to come down to the first floor and watch it. The longest version of Cymbaline, which is played at the beginning as a “song written for a French movie,” is a must-see, including Gilmore’s dramatic solo in the second half. The dynamic and wild Atom Heart Mother, which was introduced as “a song whose title has not been decided yet,” has a mysterious part featuring vocals in the 6-8 minute range, recorded with an extremely excellent sound. There is sound deterioration due to the master at 18:40?MC of the end part of AHM. Deterioration and tape wobbling continue at the beginning of Embryo, but it becomes almost normal after about 3 minutes. (The organ sound from 4 to 6 minutes is recorded at its best.) The bass is recorded with a little distortion, so the impression of the sound is quite different with and without the bass. Disc 2, Green Is The Color, starts with the clearest sound, but like Embryo, when the bass comes in, the sound gets muddy. (This may not be the fault of the recording, but the sound of the venue coming out of the PA.) The chaotic performance of Careful With That Ax, Eugene actually accentuates the charm of the song, and the problem with the bass. I don’t feel much. There is a momentary light drop at 2:37 of Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun. (Similar to previous releases) The storm-like performance of this song, which lasts 16 minutes, is truly amazing, and the organ and guitar that resonate ultra-clearly in the quiet part around 8-9 minutes are wonderful. A Saucerful Of Secrets, which is recorded uncut for about 20 minutes, is wonderfully clear at the beginning, but the sound image becomes a little direct in the second half, and the hiss is a little noticeable. (Still, the sound is good enough and the stability is excellent.) After a long tuning time, the sound suddenly turns on again at 23:28 on TRK4 and the hissing noise decreases. The last track, Interstellar Overdrive, has an excellent sound with a direct feel, and considering that it was not available on the previous album, it may be the most important track. You can experience the true essence of Floyd music through a mysterious sound space that perfectly fits the words Freaky & Spacey. It is a very wonderful sound source that is worth acquiring just for this one song. Live at Capitol Theater, Port Chester, New York, USA 22nd April 1970 GREAT/AMAZING SOUND Disc 1 1.
