Description
A high-quality audience recording of about an hour of an outdoor free concert in Amsterdam, Netherlands, held on June 26, 1971, just before Floyd’s first Australian and Japan tour. On this day, America, Humble Pie, Focus, and others performed at the festival, and despite the equipment constraints of an outdoor performance, they performed straight and stoic from beginning to end. Three types of recording sources have been confirmed for the recording of this day’s performance, one of which is a version called “Recorder 1” recorded on the main disc. Of these, the sound quality is the best. “Recorder 2” has a maximum length of 76 minutes including the inter-songs, and it was released for the first time in the history of collectors under the title “AT FREE CONCERT 1971” from the Ayanami label at the end of 2001, and it attracted a lot of attention at the time of its release. In 2010, Godfathe Records released a press CD of the remastered version under the title “Live At Free Concert”. The third source is a 19-minute recording of only Careful With That Ax, Eugene, although the sound quality is good. This “Recorder 1” is also famous for the analog “The Early Tours”, and in terms of sound quality, it is the best sound source representing this performance. This edition includes a remaster of the most RAW take that has appeared in recent years. By comparing each sound source, you can judge just by listening to how superior “Recorder 1” is to “Recorder 2” in terms of audio. “Recorder 2” also has good sound quality, but compared to the original sound source, the sound feels a little distant and unclear. (This is a must-listen for fans.) There seem to be various theories as to whether it is stereo or monaural due to the difference in volume between the left and right sides, but personally, I feel that this is a “very fresh monaural recording.” You can The sound localization is very solid, and you won’t hear any disturbing cheers during the performance, and the sound is very well defined and delicate, allowing you to thoroughly enjoy the creative live performance of the day. . As mentioned above, this day’s show was an outdoor concert, so the performance felt technically constrained, and the usual sound moving equipment could not be used, so the SE in the middle part of Cymbaline was “footsteps”. Rather, it is a short version using the SE of “Sigh” used in “Nightmare” of “Man & Journey”. What’s interesting is Embryo, which is also a shorter version at 8 minutes and 40 seconds, but in the middle part there is an SE of the seagull used in Echoes, and in rare cases, Waters’ sound effect that was shown in Careful With That Ax, Eugene. It is performed in a very unusual arrangement, with an agitation that resembles a recitation of lyrics. Although it is not digitized from the master cassette, it is the source from the cassette that is considered the most “Low Gen” at the moment, and as the best piece of the 1971 Amsterdam Free Concert, fans should definitely get it. This is the title I want to have. Amsterdamse Bos, Amsterdam, The Netherlands 26th June 1971 TRULY AMAZING SOUND 1. Careful With That Ax, Eugene 2. Cymbaline 3. Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun 4. A Saucerful Of Secrets 5. Audience Demands Encore 6. The Embryo
