A treasured title is finally here!! The excitement known as Pink Floyd’s 1971 masterpiece is revived with the bonus of the longest version for a thrilling listen!! Berlin, June 5, 1971. The recording of this day, which was the second day of the European tour that started the previous day on the 4th, had been known since the late 1980s through the 3-disc LP “BERLIN 1971” and the 2-disc CD “Mauerspechte”. . However, I believe that the dramatic upper source that rewrote the history of sound sources appeared in 2007 with “DOWNFALL”, which left many masterpieces with progressive rock titles. Although this is an unknown generation, it uses a high-quality sound source that is quite close to the master tape, and has the advantage of including the MC before the performance of “Echoes” and the beginning of “Cymbaline”, which were missing in the two titles mentioned above. Its highly satisfying listening experience became a hot topic at the time. Naturally, it sold out immediately after its release and has remained out of print to this day, but in September of this year, the 1st gen source suddenly appeared on the internet and attracted hot attention for the first time in a while. This 1st gen source, which was directly transferred from the master recording to two TDK SA90 tapes, has the latest digital transfer with a quality comparable to that Sirene edition, and has been touring in European countries since the day before. The energetic performance that had just been resumed was revived with a new breath. What’s more, it includes a previously unknown scene before the performance for about 30 seconds, making it the longest version ever. While it was an upload full of good things, this 1st gen source clearly contained scenes with a fast pitch, so this was strictly corrected when making it into a disc. In addition, by removing the noise that was not removed when it was released online and adjusting the phase that was slightly out of place, the sound reached the next level that surpassed the released source. This is the latest 2-disc set that contains the final sound that has been carefully scrutinized!! The impact appears from the beginning of disc 1. Here, as track (1), we have recorded about 2 minutes of the scene before the performance in the venue, but in fact, this scene “DOWNFALL” was recorded from the middle of the source by fade-in. However, this time, it is a complete recording that can be heard from more than 30 seconds before the start of the disc of “DOWNFALL”, and the upper feeling and advantage of the source used are clearly visible immediately after pressing the play button. “Careful With That Ax, Eugene” also has a beautiful sound vision that deeply inhales the sound output, and you will be surprised by the sound image that overlooks the entire performance but allows you to grasp the details. The pitch of this song was clearly fast when it was released online, so this has been corrected and recorded in this work, but at the same time, we have made adjustments to improve the sound clarity and phase correction, so the song stands straight in the center. , it has regained a form that is much more enjoyable to listen to than the public source. In “Fat Old Sun,” the contrast between the song’s floating feeling and the dynamic attack feeling in the middle is especially dazzling, and I think the visual and painterly sound image is eye-opening. The opening part of the organ that starts at 7:20 is even more exquisite as the mellow tone gradually overlaps with the tough sounds of the other instruments, and the part where the A melody returns at the end (* 12: 21~) will evoke a timeless impression with its sound that is so perfect for the actual scene, and you will naturally want to applaud just like the audience experiencing it here. In (5) between the newly divided songs, it is difficult to start the next song due to the long tuning. In order to appease the audience, who were rising to their feet with increasing anticipation, I said, “The band is about to start playing, so please sit down!” The announcement in the hall saying, “Sit down!!” is conveyed in a more realistic manner, and “The Return Of The Sons Of Nothing” also has a sound that makes you feel the initial impulse of the song even more strongly, including the difference in lyrics. You will be able to fully enjoy the long range that the song points to with the 1st gen sound. Similarly, “Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun” also has a magical melody and a big slowness in the chant that spreads feverishly in the ears, making the listener gain even more knowledge. “Cymbaline” has an ensemble that creates a languid atmosphere, spreading with the rich sound unique to 1st gen, and the vivid sharpness of the guitar that is emitted here and there will further raise your listening evaluation. “A Saucerful Of Secrets” has a vivid spatial feel between the sounds, and a hot sound that sears the senses from the beginning, and the high register is also wonderful, leading the whole thing especially towards the end. Everyone will be transfixed by the extension and sharpness of the slide guitar. “Astronomy Domine” has a glamorous sound released one after another from a high-propulsive tempo that is more pleasant than the Sirene version, and the colorful guitar sounds are heard both here and in the encore “Blues”. It shines brightly, and its radiant power and instantaneous sound will surely scorch you to the end of the disc. Finally, one more thing that enthusiasts point out as a drawback of this recording is that there are many pauses between songs. Since it is the same source, the source released this time also has a pause between songs, but many people may be under the impression that a large number of scenes are missing due to this inclusion. However, if you listen carefully, you will notice that the recorder is just trying to pick up as much sound as possible while being mindful of the amount of tape remaining, and in fact does not pause while the player is making some sound. That’s why there are so many tuning and sound output scenes in this source, and they are so long, and in this disc version, we have allocated the intervals between the songs as single tracks as valuable (* Insensitively) If there is a pause to enter, this track division is not used). The Colchester performance on February 12, 1971 will also be released at the same time, and these two titles contain plenty of rich knowledge that can be deepened by listening to and comparing performances from the same year but in different months. One of the joys of this work is that you can do it. After all, Colchester in February was recorded only 4 days after the start of all performances in 1971, and this Berlin performance was recorded only 2 days after the start of the European tour across the ocean. During this time, the extraordinary presence and impact of “The Return Of The Sons Of Nothing”, which was included in the set from May, can be felt in this work, and the evolution of the set list and expression will change greatly due to this. These are two titles that will give you a better view of the journey that will take you to Hakone Aphrodite and Osaka in August, as well as Pompeii.
