Description
Recorded from the June 12, 1971 performance in Lyon, France, air-checked from the program broadcast on the local radio station Europe 1. Naturally, it has been made into a sound board several times in the past as one of Floyd’s rare 1971 sound board sound sources, and is a familiar sound source to fans. The recording time is 42 minutes including the DJ intro part, and the number of songs is short at 3 songs, and the sound quality is as smooth as that of AM radio at the time, and is truly the best! That’s not to say, but this is the strength of SB, and it’s a blessing to be able to clearly hear the nuances of each instrument even though it’s monaural. There is a point in Sun Hymn that seems to be cut at around 0:20 track time, but it’s not a big deal and it plays almost completely. Also, around the 2:00 mark of the same song, the volume of the original sound source dropped sharply, and since it was recorded at that low level until the end, we corrected it without any discomfort. In the following Cymba line, the intro fades in slightly, but there is almost no problem. Rick Wright’s organ is captured on, and the tone and texture are also the best. There is a radio DJ for a few seconds in the SE part of the interlude (there seems to be a cut here), but this is also the same as the previous episode, but it is short so it is not a big problem. I was thankful that the Atomic Heart Mother included at the end included a nice brass chorus, but it was a disappointing fade-in from the main theme part! It begins with “Be careful of your throat,” as the subtitle of Atomic Heart Mother says at the end, and ends with a tragic fade-out, resulting in a recording of about 18 minutes. It’s a shame that it’s even more incomplete since it’s a precious version with brass chorus, but it may have been cut due to broadcast time constraints. However, this must be a valuable sound board sound source with brass chorus. Live at Palais des Sports, Lyon, France 12th June 1971 SBD 1. DJ Intro. 2. Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun 3.
