Description

A straight copy version of “1st Gen Reel to Reel” from the Santa Monica performance on May 1, 1970, which has recently resurfaced. It was copied to reel-to-reel from a 5-inch disc recorded on a Nagra recorder that appeared under the title “Since We Were Teenagers” about five years ago. We use the 1st gen. sound source as the master, including “Colour,” “Careful With That Ax, Eugene,” and “A Saucerful Of Secrets.” “SANTA MONICA 1970” includes a remastered and corrected version of “Since We Were Teenagers” above. Naturally, it will be compared with the masterpiece/master sound source from four years ago, but the good thing about this version is the “straight copy” sound as the title suggests. It can be said that artificial cut correction is kept to a minimum, and this version reproduces the sound texture and shape of the tape itself. Therefore, although the power and dynamism of the sound is inferior to the Sigma version, it can be said that the main version is clearly superior in terms of the splendor of the sound of the gold, mainly in the high range. In short, the master is the same, but the choice between the main version and the Sigma version depends on whether you like the “digitally remastered” sound. In today’s world, where the raw sound of the master tape itself is preferred, this edition, where you can enjoy the natural sound and texture, can be said to be the best version at present (however, the cut points etc. remain the same) From this point on, if we were to release it as a product, we would inevitably need to make corrections and compensations…) The loss of more than 1 minute in the 2-minute range of Careful With That Ax, Eugene was compensated for in the previously released Sigma version from the Talbot performance (AFAN Festival) on December 6, 1969, without any discomfort. The main version remains the same. However, the sound quality of the master itself is undoubtedly the best ever, making it the 2015 definitive version that fans must listen to. Speaking of the 1970 Santa Monica performance, it was a live concert that Floyd fans have a deep memory for, as it was recorded on the analog bootleg LP “Omayyad” (TMOQ), which is said to be the first Floyd bootleg in the United States. It can be said that it is an indispensable title for fans who can enjoy the sound of the original tape itself in its best sound and condition. Live at Civic Auditorium, Santa Monica, CA.
