Description

Peter Hamill left “ROOM TEMPERATURE” in 1990 as a trio with Nick Potter and Stuart Gordon. Introducing a shocking 4-disc set of original recordings that surpasses even such official masterpieces. This work includes “February 19, 1990 Electric Cinema Performance” and “February 25, 1990 Royal Festival Hall Performance”. This is a superb audience recording set that completely records full shows at two famous London traditional venues. The official version “ROOM TEMPERATURE” was a live album recorded on the tour accompanying “OUT OF WATER”, but this work is also a live version of the same tour. In order to understand the circumstances around that, let’s first check the show’s position from the schedule at that time. [“OUT OF WATER” released in February]・February 18th-25th: UK (8 performances) ←★Here★・March 5th-22nd: North America (14 performances)・July 10th: Belgium performance・October 16th-30th: Europe (12 performances) [ROOM TEMPERATURE] released in November This is Peter Hamill in 1990. “ROOM TEMPERATURE” was produced from the UK tour in February and the North American tour in March, but the two performances of this work are highlights of the home country of England. The Electric Cinema performance (DISC 1-2) was the second performance of the “UK” tour, and the Royal Festival Hall performance (DISC 3-4) was the final concert. This work recorded at such a show is an audience recording that depicts the best in the picture. This is the original master of this work that was given to us by the recording artist himself, but the recording artist is a master who is known at our store as a “British master.” He is a seasoned veteran who lives near London and has been documenting the British scene since the 1980s. This work stands out for its brilliant clarity even in such a master’s collection. The strong and sharp core has no sense of distance, and the details are extremely clear. Hamill’s keyboard and guitar are clear to the touch, and his vocals are at a level where you can feel his breath pouring into the microphone. Nick Potter’s bass has a gentle vibe and is glossy, but when it comes to intense attacks, it becomes crisp. Above this, Stuart Gordon’s violin dances sharply and clearly, intertwining with Hamill’s guitar and speaking separately. Although it may be a simple trio formation without drums, each note is vivid and neatly separated, and the direct feel of the core is not overwhelming. Still, at the Electric Cinema performance (DISC 1-2) there is a slight roughness at the peak, but at the Royal Festival Hall performance (DISC 3-4) it is completely unrivaled. It’s definitely the type that should be called “like a soundboard,” but I think if you dismiss it simply with that one word, you won’t be able to convey the greatness of it… It’s a world of rich and exquisite sound that makes you feel sorry for your poor vocabulary. It spreads. The show, which is depicted with a sound of beauty and majesty, is two performances that sum up the 70s and 80s. Not only the repertoire that cannot be heard on the official version “ROOM TEMPERATURE”, but also the two performances of this work are quite different. It’s a bit much, but let’s organize the set here. Common to both performances ・FOOL’S MATE: Vision (★) ・Still Life: My Room (Waiting For Wonderland) (★) ・Silent Joy: The Wave/Last Frame (★) ・THE FUTURE NOW: If I Could/The Future Now・PATIENCE: Just Good Friends/Patient/Traintime ・OUT OF WATER: Something About Ysabel’s Dance/Our Oyster Electric Cinema Performance (DISC 1-2) only ・Mind Exchange: Out Of My Book (★) ・SITTING TARGETS: Sign ( ★) / Ophelia・ENTER K: Don’t Tell Me (★)・AND CLOSE AS THIS: Too Many Of My Yesterdays (★) ・SKIN: Skin・IN A FOREIGN TOWN: Hemlock Royal Festival Hall Performance (DISC 3 -4) Only・THE SILENT CORNER AND THE EMPTY STAGE: Modern・IN CAMERA: The Comet, The Course, The Tail・Silent Joy: Cat’s Eye/Yellow Fever (Running)・ENTER K: The Unconscious Life・SKIN: Four Pails・IN A FOREIGN TOWN: Time To Burn・OUT OF WATER: A Way Out *Note: Songs marked with “★” cannot be heard on the official version “ROOM TEMPERATURE”. …and it looks like this. Seven songs were boldly replaced in both performances, and there are seven repertoires that cannot be heard in “ROOM TEMPERATURE”. In particular, the Electric Cinema performances (DISC 1-2) are different in terms of the structure of the show, with the first half (DISC 1) being entirely Hamill’s solo section and the second half (DISC 2) being the band section. This solo section (DISC 1) is the biggest highlight of this work, and most of the famous songs that are evenly selected from each album cannot be heard on “ROOM TEMPERATURE”. And the performance that plays such a set is also wonderful. Not only the main character Hamill’s expressive vocals, but also Stuart’s violin is amazing. Hamill’s ferocious vocalization and strong presence, sometimes intertwining and sometimes conflicting, are even terrifying. That splendor was fully felt in “ROOM TEMPERATURE,” but in this work, your whole body is enveloped in the feeling of rain and solemnity that can only be experienced on-site. Anyway, the highest quality that you can’t think of as an audience recording. As I have said repeatedly, there is also the official “ROOM TEMPERATURE”, but this work is an audience, but it is 50/50… No, this work is definitely far superior. It is a live album that will be overwhelmed by the “beauty that comes from audience recording.” This is a record of unparalleled beauty.
