The Pete Ross Trio, featuring legendary drummer Bill Bruford, who has made a miraculous comeback in the progressive rock world, has released a long-awaited, high-quality soundboard recording of their latest live performance, capturing the intimate details of each member’s playing. The Pete Ross Trio featuring Bill Bruford and bassist Mike Pratt performed at Porgy & Bess, Vienna’s most famous jazz club, on October 27, 2025. This recording, meticulously mastered by the label, is now available in its entirety on a premium soundboard. While PRT has released several titles in the past, this is their first soundboard release, and the sound quality allows you to hear every detail of each member’s playing, including Bruford! The concert features Pete, acclaimed for his unique technique that continues to push the boundaries of guitar, leading the band with his dexterous playing. He utilizes a variety of effects to create a diverse approach, from cleaner to fuzzier sounds, and his renowned mic and solo skills drive the groove. In particular, Bruford, a legendary musician known for his work with Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, National Health, UK, and Earthworks, has fully regained his sense of rhythm, frequently employing complex 5/4 time signatures and other unusual time signatures that transcend jazz, creating a performance that makes the five-year gap seem insignificant. The tracks range from “Full Circle,” featuring Ross’s crazy chords, to a diverse range of works from Dvorak to Antonio Carlos Jobim, to the multi-part suite “Looking Forward to Looking Back,” which has a progressive rock vibe. The three musicians maintain a tense atmosphere while clearly having fun, making this a truly outstanding performance that is sure to impress anyone who is looking for the kind of performance Bruford is looking for right now! And yet, three years on, they’ve been actively performing live, bringing the three closer together with each performance, and their truly triumphant ensemble is well worth listening to!
