Description

Percy, a British-born genius (fretless) bassist who was called the revolutionary of the (fretless) bass, was at the same time as Jaco Pastorius, but with an approach that was the exact opposite of Jaco’s, he had the same or even greater impact and influence as Jaco. He started a group (project) right after the breakup of his group Brand X, which he was a member of. Percy, Headhunters’ drummer Mike Clark, and guitarist Bill Frisell, who had not yet released their debut album “In Line” on ECM, formed the legendary Stone Tigers in December 1982 at The Showplace in New Jersey. This rare live performance was recorded on a super high-quality soundboard and is the first release of this impressive title! Percy, Mr. odd-time signature Mike Clark, and the somewhat strange guitarist Bill Frisell are a strange trio, or rather, a trio of strong individualities that are not easy to understand, and it’s amazing from the first song! Percy, who plays sharp and impressive phrases at an incredibly high speed, talkatively, Mike, who plays tight and heavy while mixing in his specialty odd time signatures, and Frisell, who plays unique harmonies and crazy phrases, make this a truly incredible trio. After that, Triangle, who goes back and forth between reality and dreams and communicates with superhuman techniques, keeps the tension at its maximum until the end, overwhelming the listeners, and in the blink of an eye, it’s an hour of ecstasy! In 1983, the drummer of Stone Tiger changed from Mike to Kenwood Dinardo of the Brand X era, and in 1984, Dinardo to Dougie Brown, so the live performances from the very early days of Mike’s time are truly valuable. Moreover, for some reason, Stone Tiger did not release a single album… After that, Percy went solo with just the bass in the mid-80s, and in the 90s, he released albums one after another with his own group, “The Tunnels,” and continued to work energetically, such as reuniting Brand X.
