Description
Paul Motian, who was the famous drummer of the Bill Evans Trio and was a great support for many years, appeared at the “UMBRIA JAZZ FESTIVAL” held in Perugia, Italy on July 8, 1995. The recording is 1 hour and 2 minutes long, and was digitally remastered from the soundboard source of the broadcast master. First, Motian continued to perform live with his own group even after Evans’ death. This recording features a luxurious quintet consisting of tenor player Joe Lovano, who has released numerous leader albums on Blue Note since the 1990s, and the trio members of unorthodox jazz guitarist Bill Frisell, who have released albums on ECM, as well as Mark Johnson, the bassist of the Bill Evans Trio in his later years, and the famous saxophonist Lee Konitz. The lineup is almost the same as the “Broadway” album series, so the songs played are mainly from that album. There are hardly any live recordings of this powerful lineup in circulation, so be sure to check it out.
