Description

Paul McCartney’s 70s roughly overlapped with his 30s. In his 30s, full of talent and ambition, he led a band called Wings and ran through the fruitful 1970s. And it was thought that this would continue into the 1980s and beyond. However, during the first year of the 1980s, two major events occurred for Paul. First, in January 1980, he was arrested for marijuana possession while visiting Japan for a concert. Paul is detained, and while the interrogation continues, which may end at any moment, the rest of the band, exhausted, return home. The Wings fell apart when Denny Lane, who was especially loyal to them, returned to Japan. Paul lost his band, which made it impossible for him to go on tour. At the end of the same year, John Lennon was murdered by a deranged person. When Yukiko Okada committed suicide, many young people followed suit, and it was even brought up as an issue in the Diet, so in every era and in every case, there are people who are inspired and try to imitate her. At this point, Paul seemed genuinely afraid that it would be his turn next and that he would be shot from the audience if he went on stage. As a result, they did not tour at all during the 1980s, and were completely silent in terms of live activities. On the other hand, although he did not appear on tour, he has made a number of one-off live appearances. This work focuses on Paul’s one-off live performances and is a chronological series of detailed live performances that are not included in many collector’s items. This is the fourth installment, and includes single live performances, TV appearances, radio appearances, etc. from 2001 to 2006. [ITV] Inspired by the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States in 2001, a number of musicians have released songs encouraging the United States. Paul witnessed this moment at a New York airport, and the song “FREEDOM” was born from it. It is also known for being hastily recorded at the end of the album “DRIVING RAIN”. Due to the sudden addition of the recording, there is no credit on the jacket. During this period, Paul frequently sang “FREEDOM” on TV, radio, and on stage. It felt as if it was intended to be Paul’s version of “GIVE PEACE A CHANCE.” However, the world has realized that what is right for America does not mean justice in the world, and that it is an expression of self-righteous patriotism, and now people no longer sing it. This was the first time “FREEDOM” was performed on TV at that time. [NOVEL PRIZE] It is unclear how he appeared, but a concert was held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Nobel Prize, and Paul appeared along with many other performers. At the beginning, it states that it is dedicated to George, who has just passed away. Paul played three songs. “Your Loving Flame” was dedicated to Heather, who was a newlywed at the time, followed by “Freedom” and finally “Let It Be.” The person in charge of drums at this time is Blair, who they toured with in 1993. “Let It Be” is a famous song that everyone knows, and the performers on the day took turns singing the vocals. It is a magnificent arrangement with an orchestra playing in the background, and the refrain is played once the song ends, which is a rare arrangement not seen on later tours. [BBC] This is a version performed on the radio, with no band and Paul singing alone with just an acoustic guitar. You can see how they were trying to spread “FREEDOM”. Percussion comes in from the middle of the song, and it is impressive that Paul sings lively in an up-tempo arrangement. It’s interesting how the ending feels like a comic song. [WETTEN DASS] At the beginning, hosts Thomas, Heather, and the audience are encouraged to clap. This pattern will be followed later by MC. The German TV program WETTEN DASS is a program that usually has many performances by miming, but here too Paul is singing alone with only an acoustic guitar. Paul sings the chorus of “Furi” and “Idan” with the emcee. [JAPANESE TV] “Celebration” was performed along with the interview broadcast in Japan, followed by an improvisation on the piano. Phrases similar to the melody of “My Love” are inserted. [SUPER BOWL] The Super Bowl of American football, one of America’s four major sports, is a major event that attracts attention from all over the United States, and it is customary for famous artists such as Michael Jackson and Prince to appear every year and liven up the venue. This year, Paul appeared and sang “FREEDOM”. The studio version is played at the venue, and Paul is also singing along with it. However, since Paul’s microphone is also turned on instead of miming, it is a double track of the studio version and live version. After the performance, Paul was called to the relay seat, and the host playfully sang “A Hard Day’s Night,” with Paul following suit. This song was performed for the first time on stage at the opening of the ONE ON ONE tour, and although it was just a joke, it was the first time he sang this song as a solo artist. [HONORING HARRISON] Speaking of George’s memorial events, the famous “CONCERT FOR GEORGE” was held at the Royal Albert Hall with Clapton, Ringo, etc., but before that, a small memorial concert was held in England. is not very well known. Perhaps it was a special appearance by Paul, who appeared on stage alone and sang “Yesterday” a cappella. The lyrics are about remembering someone who has passed away, so it is a fitting song for a memorial service. He changed the “She” in the lyrics to “He” and applied it to George when singing the song. Although he had sung “Yesterday” many times before, it was rare for Paul to sing it a cappella, and this take would be the only one. He performed the interludes with his mouth, causing laughter from the audience. [ACADEMY AWARDS] At the Academy Awards ceremony, Paul performed the title song of the movie Vanilla Sky, which was nominated at that time. It was included in the regular set list on the 2002 tour, but this will be the first time it has been performed live. This is a live performance just before going on tour for the first time in nine years in a week. This song will probably never be performed on stage again. [TONIGHT SHOW WITH JAY LENO] Jay Leno is a famous American host, and in Japan he is like Tamori. Paul performed “Let It Be” on the show hosted by Jay Leno. It’s interesting that he slows down the tempo and sings in a very, very broken manner. The interlude is played by wind instruments rather than a guitar, and is sung in unison with a female vocalist. In any case, it is rare to hear “Let It Be” like this, which is sung in a way that is both broken and serious. [QUEEN’S JUBIREE] This was a live performance at a ceremony celebrating the 50th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s coronation. “Her Majesty” was played at the beginning with a joke. Paul, who holds a knighthood, must have been allowed to declare in front of Her Majesty that Her Majesty is a lovely and wonderful woman, and that one day she will be mine. (Michael Jackson once sang “Dirty Diana” at a concert in which Princess Diana was present. Princess Diana was reportedly overjoyed.) I’m sure Her Majesty the Queen also understood the humor. After singing “Blackbird” with an acoustic guitar, the stage shifted to the band. Clapton plays “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” on the piano and Paul plays “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” on the piano. Paul has never played this song, and this will be its first performance. However, the main vocal is Clapton, and Paul only adds the chorus. At this time, Paul was right in the middle of the tour, and here he is showing off the medley of “SGT. Pepper’s Reprise? The End” that usually concludes the concert. The next song to be played is the Beatles’ “All Is Love”. Although the second half of the refrain of this song was played in a medley with “The Word” on the 2011 tour, this was the first time the song was played in its entirety, and currently the last. Naturally, the intro has been changed to the British nation instead of the French nation. Vocals are rotated by the performers on the day. The broadcast of the day is up to the next “Hey Jude”, but in this work, it is a leaked sound board that has not been broadcast, and it is completely recorded up to “I Saw Her Standing There”, which was played at the end of the day. [BRIDGE SCHOOL BENEFIT] This is an appearance at the annual charity concert sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Neil Young. Paul is playing a duet with Neil on “ONLY LOVE CAN BREAK YOUR HEART” from “AFTER THE GOLD RUSH”. Prior to this appearance, Neil appeared at the Landmine Benefit hosted by Paul and Heather Mills, so this event will likely be a return appearance. Paul appeared on both days of the two-day performance and sang the same song with Neil. Especially on the second day, Paul appeared not only on Neil Young’s stage but also on Tony Bennett’s stage, singing a duet with Tony’s representative song “The Very Thought Of You”. [SUPER BOWL HALF TIME SHOW] This is the Super Bowl that they performed in 2001. Last time they performed only one song, “FREEDOM,” but this time in 2005 they performed four songs. Before the concert, he playfully sang “She Loves You” at the host’s table. I have never performed this song on stage yet, and although it was just for fun, this is the only time I have sung it since becoming a solo. The actual stage will begin with “Drive My Car”. It’s a Paul-like mix that emphasizes the bass, and it’s a very tight performance. Following “Get Back,” “Live And Let Die” uses flashy lighting and sound effects to liven up the festival. There is no gap in the performance as it is a song that is usually played on stage. [COLIN & EDITH BBC RADIO 1] Performance on a radio program. Although it is an abbreviated version of the performance, where they have fun and make a fuss together with the presenters, the performance itself is very solid. This series is unique in that it covers even the smallest details that people don’t know about. [LIVE 8] In 2005, 20 years after the historic event LIVE AID in 1985, an event with the same purpose was held again. It was titled LIVE8 because it was held in conjunction with the G8 (G8 Summit). The opening is “SGT. PEPPER’S” which is not a reprise since 1990. It is a duet performance with U2’s Bono. “Drive My Car” features a harmonious duet with the late George Michael. What is unusual is that after “Hey Jude” ends, the refrain of “Hey Jude” is played again using a stick count, as if to rekindle the lingering feeling in the venue. [RAZOR CUTS VIRGIN RADIO] This is a performance during a radio appearance. The song title is “I Say You Never Tell Me” with only an acoustic guitar, but the melody is clearly “How Kind Of You” from “Chaos And Creations”. Since the album had already been released at this point, it was not a draft in the creative process, but rather a parody song that borrowed the melody. [ELLEN DEGEBERSES SHOW] Promotional appearance in conjunction with the release of the album “CHAOS AND CREATIONS”. Paul performed four songs. They performed two new songs, “Fine Line” and “English Tea,” from the introduction edited for this day, which spans from the Beatles era to the Wings era to the present day. It was a very fulfilling performance considering they were on tour. After the new songs, they played “Get Back” and “Drive My Car.” [GRAMMY AWARDS] Due to divorce negotiations with Heather Mills, he did not perform on stage in 2006, let alone tour, and this performance at the Grammy Awards will be his only live performance in 2006. At this point, it may be said that it is still a new song, but in addition to “Fine Line”, “Helter Skelter” is being played. The last song, “Yesterday,” is an up-tempo arrangement by another artist, and Paul participates as a guest vocalist midway through. [LIVE ARCHIVES VOL.4] Vol.4 of the Live Archives series, which covers in detail chronologically single-shot live performances that are not included in the regular title, includes performances from 2001 to 2006. . As you can see from the track list, you might think that this is a collection of such detailed, previously unknown, first appearances. From songs that are never played on regular tours to the only live take, these are all valuable items that are indispensable in Paul’s activities as a musician. The concept of this series is to cover all of them in chronological order. DISC ONE ITV November 24, 2001 01. Freedom NOVEL PRIZE December 11, 2001 02. Speech 03. Your Loving Flame 04. Freedom 05.
