Description
Paul McCartney’s 70s almost overlapped with his 30s. His talent and ambition were burning hot in his 30s, and he led the band Wings through the fruitful 70s. And it was thought that this would continue into the 80s and beyond. However, two big events occurred for Paul in the first year of the 80s. First, in January 1980, he was arrested for possession of marijuana in Japan while visiting for a concert. Paul was detained, and while the interrogation continued, which may never end, the band members, who had become impatient, returned to Japan. Wings fell apart when even Denny Laine, who was a loyal “Friday,” returned to Japan. Paul lost his band, which made it impossible for him to go on tour. Then, at the end of the same year, John Lennon was murdered by a crazy person. When Yukiko Okada committed suicide, many young people followed her lead, and it was even discussed in the Diet, so in any era and in any case, there are people who are influenced and try to imitate others. At this time, Paul seemed to be genuinely afraid that it would be his turn next, and that if he went on stage, he would be shot by the audience. As a result, he did not tour at all in the 1980s, and spent a period of silence in terms of live activities. On the other hand, although he did not go on tour, he did a fair number of one-off live appearances. This work focuses on Paul’s one-off live appearances, and is a series that chronologically records detailed live performances that are not included in many collector’s items. This is the third installment, and records one-off live performances, TV appearances, radio appearances, etc. from 1997 to 2001. [THE OPRAH WINFREY SHOW] Appearance on a TV show on November 20, 1997. Appearance to promote the album “Flaming Pie” and performed two songs. The singing style is different and it is a live performance rather than miming, but it is almost a perfect copy of the studio version. “Lady Madonna” is a riff that Paul played on the piano to liven up the venue between songs. The powerful count before playing “Flaming Pie” is cool. [THE RHYTHM OF LIFE] On a radio program that appeared on January 5, 1998, during the New Year holidays, he played a short performance of “I Lost My Little Girl” and explained the composition of the song when it was written. He played “Lady Madonna” and said that he wrote this song in the same way. [CHRISTOPHER REEVE TRIBUTE] March 1, 1998 A rare performance of “Calico Skies” with guitar. This was a live performance as a tribute to actor Christopher Reeve, who is well known for his role as Superman. Christopher Reeve fell off a horse in 1995 and suffered a spinal cord injury, which forced him to live in a wheelchair, and he passed away in 2004. According to Christopher, who played the American hero Superman, a true hero is “an ordinary person who spares no effort and acquires the strength to endure, no matter what obstacles he faces.” [HAPPY BIRTHDAY SPIKE] A performance for SPIKE’s birthday celebration on April 18, 1998. He sings “Yesterday” with an acoustic guitar, but in the middle of the song, he pretends to make a mistake in the lyrics and suddenly changes to a different song, which is a rare arrangement. [ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME] Three songs from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Memorial Concert held on March 15, 1999. Except for “Let It Be,” Paul sings oldies numbers that are his roots. At this time, Paul does not hold an instrument and only sings with a microphone. [CONCERT FOR LINDA] Linda passed away the previous year. He did not marry and divorce repeatedly, as is common for rock stars, and Linda lived a married life with him for many years, and Linda, who was with him as a band member for nearly 30 years, passed away at a young age. This is Paul’s performance at Linda’s memorial concert held on April 10, 1999. The first song is Ricky Nelson’s “Lonesome Town,” which Paul and Linda often listened to together. It has sad lyrics and a sad melody reminiscent of twilight. The lyrics, which seem to express the feelings of a husband who has lost his wife, say that if you come to Lonesome Town, a town where lonely hearts gather and tears fill your heart to pay for your stay, you will forget your sadness and regrets. This moving singing is exactly what Paul was singing at that time. The second song is a light-hearted performance of “All My Loving.” Since this concert was broadcast at the time, “Lonesome Town” and “All My Loving” were widely heard. However, it is not widely known that “Let It Be,” another song that was not broadcast that day, was also played. This work includes the first appearance of “Let It Be” from the audience recording of the day. The musicians at the venue took turns singing, but the song structure was a mess, and although they somehow managed to complete the performance, it makes sense that it was cut from the broadcast. [BUDDY HOLLY WEEK] On September 7, 1999, the annual Buddy Holly Week took place in New York. Paul once again sang the familiar “Rave On.” I wish he would sing other Buddy songs sometimes. [PARTY OF THE CENTRY] From this point onwards, there were many one-off live performances that he appeared in to promote the album “RUN DEVIL RUN.” After all, he was backed by a luxurious group of members, such as Ian Paice on drums and Dave Gilmour on guitar, and the performance was amazing. And Paul also sang the oldies number with youthful energy. “Honey Hush” is Paul’s favorite song that he has been playing since the Beatles era, and he has performed it on stage several times since then. It’s cool that he says “Rock and roll is here!” after playing. “Brown Eyed Handsome Man” was recorded as a 2-take because he failed to start singing and stopped playing once. “No Other Baby” was recorded as a sound check back in 1993. The recording was also preserved, and it had a light feel, but in 1999 it was reborn as a very heavy arrangement with a growling bass. “Try Not To Cry” is a new song that Paul intentionally made to be an oldie. The influence of Jeff Lynn can be felt in the melody. After the ballad “Lonesome Town”, the last song is “Run Devil Run”. This is also a new song that was intentionally made to be oldie-like. The chorus of “La-a-a” in the chorus part sounded like Linda’s voice, and it became a topic of occult talk. [LATER WITH JOOLS HOLLAND] On November 2, 1999, he appeared on a show hosted by Jools Holland and performed 4 songs. The band, including Paul, also plays the opening jingle for the show. The songs are “Honey Hush,” “No Other Baby,” and “Brown Eyed Handsome Man,” followed by “Party” for the first time. [NATIONAL LOTTERY SHOW] November 13, 1999, this is a TV show hosted by Lulu. Lulu herself is a singer, so she participates in the chorus for “Brown Eyed Handsome Man,” and even takes over vocals for Paul in “Party.” Lulu’s voice can be clearly heard even in the chorus, and you can enjoy it as a different version of the song. [THE APPOCALYPSE TUBE] This is a live performance from a TV appearance on November 20, 1999. The show opens with “Brown Eyed Handsome Man,” and although they don’t do it over again, it’s a pretty suspicious performance. The highlight is “Party.” Even after the performance, the excitement in the venue has not cooled down, so Paul starts playing “Party” again. There is also a scene where Paul pulls the vocals to the moderator, and it is a very punky performance, and the last “LONESOME TOWN” has not been able to sing and has stopped playing. In the group, I am playing the phrase “Run Devil Run” in the “Run Devil Run” promotion, but this is a pole. In December 2, Parkinson Show will be the last time Michael Parkinson appears as a prisoner on the album “Band on the Run”. Not only the songs, but also the unreleased songs and ad -lib songs are different from other appearance. It is unusual for the album “Run Devil Run” to play “Honey Hush” and the first “All Shook Up” in a series of promotions. The song “WHEN THE WIND BLOWING” is not determined by the whistle, and then the piano is also absent. I think the pole is the best version of the “Your Loving Flame” that is performed in “DRIRIG RAIN”. “OOBU DOOBU SONG” is a jazz -style ad -lib song. As mentioned above, this program is quite different for the “Run Devil Run” promotion, very many, and it is a rare program that has a pole entertainer for the first time. Simultaneous terrorism and the family of those who have been relieved, and are the first songs for this day. “I’m down”, and “LONLY ROAD” and “FRONLY ROAD” are later incorporated into the regular set list of “LONLY ROAD”. However, “From Lover to a Friend” is the only live take at this time. In that sense, it can be said to be a very valuable live version. And “Freedom” will be the theme song for this event.[Live Archives vol.3] The live archive series, which is not recorded in the normal title, is a track list from 1997 to 2001. It is an indispensable thing that is indispensable for the first appearance of such a detailed thing, from the usual songs that have not been known so far, from the normal tours that have not been known so far.
