Description

The Knebworth performance we present this time is from the radio show disc of the Superstar Concert Series, which was broadcast in 1995 by Westwood One to coincide with the broadcast month of the radio program Oobu Joobu, where Paul DJs, and the sound quality is excellent, having not been tampered with (or not tampered with at all) in the studio later. The John Lennon medley that stirred emotion in Liverpool was also performed here, and here too, after the performance, the audience of over 120,000 erupted in huge cheers. For this Knebworth Festival appearance, Paul’s management side had strongly hoped that he would be the headliner of the festival, but this did not come true, and therefore the short showtime began with Paul’s call of “Good Morinig” under the bright sunlight. Nevertheless, the stage full of energy of Paul and the band was wonderful. This was no surprise, as they had already started performing high double-digit live shows in the previous year, 1989, and this was their triumphant return to the UK after performing stadium live shows in Tokyo, Brazil, and the US. Furthermore, this John Lennon medley had been thoroughly rehearsed, so there was no way it could have been bad. Furthermore, due to the forecast of heavy rain in the evening, Pink Floyd’s management asked them to roll the tape next to the stage, but Paul and his management rejected the request, and Paul screamed “Can’t Buy Me Love” and left the stage, which is a cool episode. I will organize this Knebworth collector’s edition and the sources used. The oldest collector’s edition is THE MAC ATTACK, an American analog bootleg. This was mastered from a cassette that received British FM broadcasts early on, and the pitch was too fast. Soon after, CDs using FM sound sources were released on the Vigotone and Goblin labels, but there was a loss of sound during the song I Saw Her Standing There and after the performance of Can’t Buy Me Love, and it also seemed that the FM sound at the time had been forcibly EQ’d (I remember Goblin being released earlier). In recent years, a version using satellite broadcast sound sources has been released. Furthermore, audience sound sources and one-camera audience shots are being unearthed and released one after another, but as far as we can remember, this 1995 Westwood One radio show disc has not been available. The only drawback of this radio show disc is that there is a small amount of noise in the first half of Can’t Buy Me Love, but the same noise is also present in the sound source recorded from a recent satellite broadcast, which means that the source of this Westwood One has been used for broadcast in recent years. Please enjoy the popular live sound source in high quality with this work, which is not a recording of the broadcast but a clone of the radio show disc for broadcast! *The program is 120 minutes long including local commercials, so at the end of the program, you can listen to three Up Close tracks from 1993 (Twenty Flight Rock, Fixing A Hole, Sgt. Peppers live recording) and three George & Ringo Prince Trust tracks from 1987 (While My Guitar, Here Comes The Sun, With A Little…) in Westwood One MIX. It’s a bit disappointing that the Up Close tracks have overdubbed cheers, but the Prince Trust tracks are good. Disc 3 also includes a Knebworth track with a different mix! (See tracklist for details). Enjoy how the sound changes depending on the engineer (a precious FM air check cassette from that time is also included). Finally, the title is THE NEW MAC ATTACK, in homage to THE MAC ATTACK (Starlight Records), an analog bootleg released in the US in the early autumn of 1990.
