Description

After the Beatles broke up, Paul formed a new band, Wings, after releasing two solo albums. Having his own band meant being able to perform live at any time. As expected, Paul took the world by storm with his large-scale tours in the 1970s. However, the band naturally disintegrated after his arrest in Japan in early 1980, and John was shot at the end of the year, and all live performances were suspended. Paul, now in his late 40s, had to wait until 1989 to return to the stage. Paul, who was a little plumper than in his Wings days, went on a large-scale tour for the first time in nine years with the release of his new album, “FLOWERS IN THE DIRT”. It had been nine years since the last time. What kind of set list would it be, what songs would they play, and what kind of stage would it be? With the expectations of the world on his back, the first day of the tour was on September 26, 1989, in Oslo, Norway. The set list was very different from the previous Wings performances, and was full of Beatles numbers that had never been played before, which was very surprising. I also have fond memories of the music media saying, “Finally released,” which is not a wine-related thing. At this point, Paul McCartney was 47 years old. Considering that Noel Gallagher is 50 years old as of 2018, he is still young by today’s standards, but at the time, there were very few artists older than Paul who were performing rock concerts, and it felt like he was walking in uncharted territory. However, contrary to common perception, the proportion of Beatles songs was not as high as one might imagine, only about half. The rest of the songs were from his solo days, Wings days, and new albums, and you can see that the selection was very wide. Still, the impact of the Beatles songs being played for the first time was great, and it was a big topic to hear the Beatles songs, which were already history at this point, performed by the original Beatles. This work is a complete recording of the concert at the renovated traditional Old Opera House in Frankfurt, Germany, from the first European tour in nine years, just six performances after the first day in Oslo.
