Description
Since it was his first world tour in a long time, many of Paul McCartney’s live performances in 1989 have been recorded as sound sources. However, since it was held at a time when it could be said that cassette recorders and DAT were on the dividing line, there was a tendency for the quality of the audience recordings available to vary. However, since it was only a relatively recent tour in 1989, even recently, there have been great recordings from American performances such as the upgraded sound source “DRESS REHEARSAL 1989” of the debut show before the tour started, and the newly released “L.A. FORUM 1989 FINAL NIGHT: MIKE MILLARD MASTER TAPES”, which was also a hot topic because it was said that even the legendary taper Mike Millard had recorded this tour! As such, the LA Forum on November 27th was the one that was most desired to be re-released during the 1989 tour, which has a wealth of sound sources. Above all, on this day, a miraculous collaboration was realized, with Stevie Wonder jumping in to sing “Ebony and Ivory”. The performance was released in real time as a LP box set, even in the early days of CDs, but the quality of the 1989 audience recording was not so good, but the maniacs were grateful that they captured the miraculous collaboration. For a while after that, the only performance they could hear was the B-class audience on LP, but in 2013, JEMS suddenly released a different sound source audience that had been kept secret until then. The sound quality of this was so amazing that it was incomparable to the previous sound source, causing a stir among maniacs around the world. The new sound source was quickly released in 2014 under the name “EBONY AND IVORY 1989”. The JEMS version boasted overwhelmingly high sound quality, and it would have been fine if it had only been out of pitch, but from “The Fool On The Hill” to “This One”, all the small sound breaks that seemed to have occurred at the time of uploading were removed, and it was made into a CD after being adjusted to a state where it could be properly listened to as music, which made it a huge bestseller. As expected, it has been sold out for a long time, and when a few copies of the overseas stock that miraculously remained were released this year, it seemed like a scramble. The reason for its popularity is that it captured the moment when the live duet of “Ebony And Ivory” with Stevie was realized on stage with excellent sound quality. In fact, the sound quality is one of the best three among the audience recordings of the 1989 tour. If this had been released in real time, it would have caused an incredible sensation. Anyway, the sound image is close and the clarity is outstanding. The quality was so amazing that it even surpassed the mirrored recording “L.A. FORUM 1989 FINAL NIGHT: MIKE MILLARD MASTER TAPES”. This masterpiece, which has been requested for reissue for a long time, has finally been re-released with the latest brush-up. However, since the sound quality itself was of the highest quality and did not require any additional work, the unstable parts of the volume that could not be fixed at the time of the 2014 release were adjusted. In addition, the position of the chapter that was flying before the song switched to “Carry That Weight”, which was a simple mistake at the time of release, was also corrected. In other words, this is the extent of the work that was done for this re-release, proving that the JEMS sound source released in 2013 has not faded at all. Not only was the sound quality wonderful, but the performance on this day was also very interesting. Before the live started, Stevie visited the dressing room and it was decided that he would appear in the encore, and immediately after the start of the live, Paul and the other members on stage were clearly “fidgety”. This is evident in the first performance of the day (as a result), “Ebony And Ivory,” which is clearly very tense. The fact that Linda ends up singing the ending alone is also proof of this. In the following “We Got Married,” a loud howling sound is emitted while Paul is singing, and he involuntarily screams in grief. However, Linda is the one who uses her wit here. The scene where Paul shouted “Feedback!” when a similar incident occurred during the performance of “Let Me Roll It” on the final day of Wings’ 1976 LA Forum at the same time is well known to enthusiasts, but she shouted “Feedback!” as if she had remembered it. The sound is so good that you can hear even the incidents that make such enthusiasts grin. As a result, the audience at the Forum that day got to hear “Ebony and Ivory” twice, so the excitement when Stevie appeared in the encore and the miraculous live duet that followed were superb. Thanks to the outstanding sound quality that can be enjoyed by beginners and enthusiasts alike, the appearance of Paul and the band playing with him and looking really happy is very realistic. I can’t help but be grateful that such a miraculous moment was captured by the best audience. I also miss the key-up version of “Yesterday” that Paul played and sang before this scene as the opening of the encore. The great audience album that captured the legendary day of the 1989 tour with the best sound quality is finally back!
