Description
Paul’s 1980s started badly, with his arrest in Japan, the natural dissolution of Wings, and the death of John. The sister albums “PIPES OF PEACE” and “TUG OF WAR,” produced by George Martin again, were successful in sales, but it cannot be denied that they were riding on the popularity of duets with popular people at the time. Having lost his band, he could no longer perform live, and Paul, who had entered his 40s, was in a period of uncertainty. Just like the Beatles, who had stopped performing live, Paul started making movies. That was “Yeah! Broad Street” in 1984. There were detailed commentaries and other materials published at the time about this movie, so I won’t go into detail here. Although it is generally poorly rated, fans can enjoy Paul’s charm, as if they were watching a spectacular promo video full of highlights. A new album of the same name was released as the soundtrack to the movie. This work contains the session recordings. It may seem unthinkable now, but at the time, the biggest topic of conversation was the fact that the Beatles’ songs were being performed again. Although Wings had played Beatles songs on stage before, these songs included “Good Day Sunshine,” “For No One,” and “Here There And Everywhere,” which had not been performed before. There are also many self-covers of his own songs that were used in the movie. The arrangements are almost the same, but with an added touch of originality, such as the bass solo inserted in the middle of “Silly Love Songs” and the lengthy performance of “Ballroom Dancing.” New songs were also written for the movie, and the theme song “No More Lonely Night” in particular is a masterpiece that I would like to see performed on stage even today. In this way, the movie and album are irresistible for fans, with songs from the Beatles era, self-covers, new songs, and background music used in each scene of the movie being Paul’s songs. This work includes all related audio sources, such as the “Broad Street” session recordings, alternate mixes, alternate versions (there are many alternate versions due to the era), and radio show recordings with commentary by Paul himself, which were broadcast in real time at the time.
