The Beatles and the Beach Boys, who had a mutual respect but rivalry in the 1960s, finally reunited in a special live event, “Open Hearts Clear Mines,” bringing together Paul McCartney and Brian Wilson. Held at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles on September 18, 2002, as a benefit for the landmine relief effort, Paul joined Brian Wilson, who had made a miraculous comeback and was actively performing live. He then performed “Let It Be” on Paul’s stage, a truly moving and long-awaited collaboration for both bands’ fans. This rare performance has been newly remixed and restored from the original master, making it the first CD release available. The original mono audience recording, with its narrow range, has been remixed and restored to a true stereo sound with enhanced clarity and balance, resulting in a completely different sound source than ever before. Although they had been friends for many years, this was their only live performance together, making it a one-of-a-kind, precious recording. Also included as a bonus track is a remixed version (previously unreleased on CD) of the 2004 duet “A Friend Like You.” This is a newly edited memorial edition of the “dream collaboration” between Paul McCartney and Brian Wilson.
