This release features a complete 2-hour and 5-minute recording of a live performance in Perugia, Italy on July 12th, from Pat Metheny’s Unity Band’s 2012 European tour, which coincided with the album release. The high-quality audience master has been digitally remastered in 2026. The remastering corrected the slightly strong mid-range reverberation in the original audience source, and the overall balance and noise reduction have been applied to perfectly recreate the night’s performance in high quality. The band, which was praised as the strongest contemporary jazz band of its time, consisted of three musicians that it took the perfectionist Pat Metheny 30 years to find: Chris Potter (ts), Ben Williams (b), and Antonio Sanchez (ds). Throughout the performance, Chris Potter’s saxophone is featured as much as Metheny’s guitar, reminiscent of the exhilarating energy he once shared with Michael Brecker. They play almost all the tracks from that album, and the stable bass and drums, the transparent guitar and intertwined saxophone, and the driving eight-beat rhythm create a thrilling, exhilarating experience that runs through the entire piece. It’s incredibly enjoyable and a must-listen not only for longtime fans but also for rock fans in general.
