Description

In May 2016, Pat Metheny came to Japan with a completely new quartet, and a 3-disc set was released that included all of the concerts on that day, including the first part of the Tokyo performance on May 20th, and the second part. I did. It was a new quartet’s performance in Japan, and the stage started with some nerves, but when the fantastic sound of Pat Metheny’s Picasso guitar echoed, the anxiety of the audience faded away and they prepared to enjoy the stage with all their might. You can clearly see how it turned out. Other than drummer Antonio Sanchez, the members are not very familiar to jazz fans, but you can listen to Asian female bassist Linda Ou’s stable, orthodox, acoustic bass lines with confidence. Gwilym Simcock, who participated on the piano, is a talented member of Bill Bruford’s band in the past, and you can feel his good taste in his innovative playing. The first part is recorded on Disk 1, and the second part is recorded on Discs 2 & 3 with crystal clear sound, so fans can be impressed by the wonderful sound quality that even the atmosphere of the live venue is vacuum packed on the day. It’s a coveted title.
