In 1986, Metheny’s extremely rare live performance at the California Institute of the Arts with his special quartet was released on CD for the first time from an audience recording made by enthusiasts. Its members include bassist Charlie Haden, who also participated in Haden’s Quartet West album, and saxophonist Ernie Watt, who also won a Grammy Award and has a large fan base. A genuine special quartet consisting of drummer Harvey Mason, who has also participated in numerous jazz works including “Head Hunters” and the Brecker Brothers on drums. Although the live performance of this quartet has been partially confirmed, it is a great achievement to have the live performance released as a two-disc set like this time. The opening of the live performance started with “Police People” from the album “Song Furthermore, fans should pay attention to the fact that the famous 70’s song “Long is Right” is even played at the end of the live performance. The sound source used as the master this time has been remastered by overseas enthusiasts and the tape speed has been corrected, so please enjoy this rare live performance carefully.
