Pat Metheny Group’s debut work, “Memories of San Lorenzo” (Recorded at Talent Studio, Oslo, January 1980) A rare live performance from the earliest days of the original Pat Metheny Group, before recording. Appearing! ! ! Pat’s professional career began when he was discovered by Gary Burton and worked with his group, and in 1975, while still in Burton’s group, he became the leader for the first time in a trio with Jaco Pastorius and Bob Moses. Started activities as a. On July 6, 1976, he performed with Lyle Mays for the first time as a quartet in Kansas. Other members are Bob Moses on drums and Mike Richmond on bass. In September, the Metheny Quartet’s drummer will replace Moses with Dan Gottlieb for three performances. In 1977, the focus of his activities gradually shifted from Burton’s quartet to his own activities. First, in January, he performed eight shows with the Metheny Quartet (with Elliott Zsigmond on drums), then toured with the Burton Quartet from February to May, then joined the Marina Shaw band, In February, Gottlieb returned to the Metheny Quartet, and Mark Egan, who was also an ally of Gottlieb, joined to replace Mike on bass, and the group was renamed the Pat Metheny Group instead of the Pat Metheny Quartet. Their debut as PMG will begin on June 24th in New York, and they will finally become independent from Burton’s group, starting from now on with hundreds of Death Road releases per year. The live performance at New York’s Bottom Line on September 26, 1978, which was completely specialized in PMG’s activities and toured around the United States for a year, was recorded on the label’s own carefully mastered high-quality sound board.
