Description

The Perry Sisters are a vocal group of four sisters who are loved by a wide range of fans of soul/R&B/gospel/jazz. Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays provided songs for the debut album of the Perry Sisters. This was the occasion for the Pat Metheny Group and the Perry Sisters to collaborate on a 31-performance tour. This is the first release with superb sound quality from the middle performance! The Perry Sisters are an R&B group made up of the four Perry sisters, Rory, Darlene, Carol, and Sharon, who made a name for themselves as backing vocalists for Anita Baker. After Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays contributed songs to their debut album “Celebrate” released in 1986, the Perry Sisters appeared as guests at a PMG concert during the production of “Celebrate.” This concert, held at Boston Common on July 10, 1985, was held in the middle of a special US tour that included 31 performances. This two-disc set has been released, featuring the complete concert, including the encore, in the label’s own ultra-high quality stereo sound! During this period of huge popularity, Metheny became the biggest earner in both name and reality for ECM, the label he had been with since his debut. However, due to a musical feud with Manfred Eicher, he ended his contract with ECM, and this live performance was a culmination of PMG’s time with ECM. It includes the best of Metheny’s ECM hits that everyone wants to hear, as well as rare songs performed only during this period that hint at his later activities. Furthermore, the Perry Sisters add a touch of class to this best of the best, and both performances are definitive masterpieces! The album begins with the introduction “Forward March,” which begins with Metheny’s guitar synthesizer as a fanfare, reminiscent of “Song X,” the first album released under his Geffen contract the following year, which featured Metheny’s collaboration with his idol Ornette Coleman. The album builds up excitement as the audience is captivated by the start of “Phase Dance,” which features popular songs such as “James,” “First Circle,” “Are You Going With Me,” and “Letter From Home,” as well as “Dalton Lee,” “Scrap Metal,” and “Chris.” The album ends with a rare collaboration between PMG and the Perry Sisters, including “Airstream II” and “Jaco II,” a track written by Pat and Lyle for the Perry Sisters’ debut album, Celebrate. This long, superbly high-quality recording features PMG’s strongest performance from the heyday of PMG, with a rare collaboration that can only be heard here.
