From the North American tour accompanying the release of “First Circle,” his final album from ECM in 1984, a live performance in Vancouver, Canada on October 28th was recorded in full for 2 hours and 12 minutes from a reasonably good audience master that was recently released by taper. This period, when Metheny said goodbye to ECM and was about to enter the Geffen era, saw the performance unfold in a way that made you feel like he was taking on a new challenge, and in particular, the participation of South American multi-player Pedro Aznar added width and depth to the sound, leading to a spectacular live performance that seemed to open the door to the Metheny world in the future. The following year, he also performed in Japan with almost the same members, making this a memorable gem for fans.
