Description
Live Under the Sky was held every year from 1977 to 1992 (it was cancelled in 1982), and is known as the best jazz festival in Japan, with many great performances and legends. The passionate performance by V.S.O.P. at “Rainy Denen Coliseum” in 1979, which was officially released, is especially famous among fans, but in fact there is another legend of “Rainy Denen Coliseum” where heavy rain fell in the middle of the performance, and an extremely passionate performance also took place! Paco’s performance at “Live Under the Sky” held in July 1981, shortly after the formation of the Paco Group, was recorded directly from the original PCM digital recording master, which is a legendary performance of the extremely high-tension “other” rainy Coliseum, where Chick Corea joined in the second half and a heavy rain fell in the middle of the performance. The sound of Paco touching the strings and the sounds of each instrument are so clear that they wake you up. This supreme item has been released for the first time, and it is an amazing and ultimate high-quality stereo sound board that has been recorded directly from the original PCM digital recording master, which is a secret and unreleased item. Paco has three faces, playing in the traditional Spanish flamenco style, playing across genres with McLaughlin, DiMeola, and Chick, who performed with him in this performance, and playing with his own group that revolutionized Spanish music. He is a guitarist who can be said to be a treasure not only of Spain but also of the world, and is also considered to be the foremost true musician. It is no exaggeration to say that the performance entitled “Paco de Lucia Night” at “Live Under the Sky” was the one that summarized everything about Paco. First, Paco performed two flamenco-style solos with his beautiful and gorgeous overwhelming technique, followed by the performance of the group that would revolutionize Spanish music. The same members would play with Paco for decades to come, including Carlos Benavente, who is called the best electric bass player in Spain, Ruben Dantas, a percussionist from Salvador who is particularly famous in Brazil, Jorge Pardo, an elite saxophonist and flutist who graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid, and Jorge Pardo, a man of outstanding technique. Ramon de Algeciras on second guitar is Paco’s older brother, more than 10 years older than him, and was a guitarist who taught Paco guitar from a young age together with his father, but in this group Pepe de Lucia is dedicated to cante (singing), and Paco makes up a dream group of six of Spain’s most virtuoso musicians. This DVD captures in detail how they create revolutionary, grandiose music that incorporates not only flamenco but also a variety of other music, transcending genres and being Spanish, classical, jazz/fusion, and progressive rock. The ensemble of Algeciras’s precise second guitar, Paco’s overwhelmingly technical guitar, and Benavente’s fretless guitar, which boasts Paco’s eye-catching high-speed phrases and astonishing technique of playing the bass in unison, are brilliant performances that surpass even Jaco in his prime, Dantas’s stimulating percussion playing with natural inspiration, Pardo’s passionate improvisations on saxophone and flute backed by outstanding technique inspire the listener, and Pepe’s passionate singing is also hot, and the performance is full of spirit, with no pretense or confusion, so much so that you forget time for a while…Suddenly, heavy rain hits in the middle of the performance, but the sound of that rain is also recorded realistically, helping to liven up this great performance. Also, from this point on, the tension of Paco and the other members begins to rise at once, and the situation of the group rendezvous in heavy rain is also exciting! In the second half, Paco embarked on a new challenge, a collaboration with Chick Corea. First, Chick greeted with “Welcome Rain”, and introduced the masterpiece “Duet for Guitar and Piano”, which he created for Paco. Although the melody is unique to Chick of My Spanish Heart, Paco is not used to songs with complex jazz nuances, so it may be difficult to play. However, Paco is a maestro of Spanish music, which has more difficult songs than jazz, and it is hard not to be moved by the way he uses his perfect interpretation and technique to create an artistic ensemble with Chick. After this masterpiece, the rain stopped and Paco’s group performed with Chick, where Paco and Chick engaged in a fiery improvisation battle, and all the members gave their all in a passionate performance towards the end, bringing the performance to a grand finale! This is a dream collaboration between Paco de Lucia’s group, a treasure of the music world who has had a huge influence on all musicians, rather than just one guitarist, and Chick Corea, who is a mutual friend of Paco, and the legendary performance of “another” rainy rural coliseum, said to be Paco’s best performance in Japan, recorded directly from the original unearthed PCM digital recording master, which has never been released to the public. It is a dream item that you can listen to on the most gorgeous, astonishing, and ultimate high-quality stereo sound board ever!!!
