Description

PIL’s “Commercial Zone”, released by Keith Levin as an official bootleg, is now available on the original analog version! After releasing “Flowers of Romance” in 1981, PIL began working on an album titled “Commercial Zone.” Fans at the time were surprised by the “commercial” concept, but waited for its release with anticipation. Moreover, it was decided that they would perform in Japan in July 1983. However, just before the performance in Japan, Keith’s withdrawal was announced. At the time, there were reports of a feud between John and Keith over the production of this album. John hurriedly hired session musicians to perform in Japan. Finally, the Pistols number was released, much to the delight of Japanese fans. On the other hand, of course the release of “Commercial Zone” was canceled, but the single “Love Song” released in September became the highest selling single by PIL. “Love Song” was a take that was scheduled to be included in “Commercial Zone” (that is, Keith played the guitar and bass). After that, John re-recorded songs that were not supposed to be on Commercial Zone (including love songs, of course), and released an album called This Is What, which also included new songs and incorporated a lot of funky elements. It was completed as “You Want” and released in 1984. However, Keith released “Commercial Zone”, which was in production until he left, in the form of an official bootleg in 1984 (of course, the vocalist was John). “Commercial Zone”, which included songs that were also included in “This Is What You Want”, was immediately greeted with great attention. The songs that were also included in “This Is What You Want” are of course recorded here in the arrangement typical of PIL when they were with Keith, but they also include acoustic guitar, slide guitar, and funky elements. This may have been the “commercial” album Keith was aiming for. Keith’s unique noisy and metallic guitar, which had been muted in his previous album “Flowers of Romance”, seems to be making a comeback. The disc in the highest condition was used for this gift. Please enjoy Keith’s long-forgotten version of “Commercial Zone,” another album produced by John and Keith based on the concept of “Commercial” and derived from it. This is a gem that can be enjoyed by music fans other than punk/new wave/post-punk fans. Taken from the original US LP “Commercial Zone”(PiL Records Inc., XYZ-007) 1. Love Song 2. Mad Max 3.
