From OZZY OSBOURNE’s 1984 world tour accompanying the release of “BARK AT THE MOON,” the last day of the tour to Japan, the Shibuya Public Hall performance in Tokyo on July 7th, used a high-quality audience master recorded by Miracle Man. A complete recording edition has been decided! Although some existing sound sources are known for this day, this work is an excellent recording that clearly surpasses them, and will let all listeners enjoy the final day of the special Japan tour. In 1983, Ozzy Osbourne discovered Jake E. Lee as his third guitarist, following Randy Rhoads and Brad Gilles. “BARK AT THE MOON,” produced with him, incorporated the L.A. metal movement that was gaining momentum at the time into a European taste, giving Ozzy, who was synonymous with metal, a new charm. Jake had already made his tour debut as a member of Ozzy in the spring of ’83, but he finally showed his true worth on the world tour that took place after the announcement of “BARK AT THE MOON”. The UK and European tour in late 1983 and the large-scale North American tour in early 1984 were also very successful. The reborn band and a number of new songs received great support from fans. The final stage of this “BARK AT THE MOON” world tour was Ozzy’s second visit to Japan in two years. Since the new guitarist is a Japanese American, the affinity and expectations that Japanese fans had for Jake exceeded that of Brad, the guitarist when he first came to Japan. The tour dates have also been expanded since the last time, and this visit to Japan will feature a total of 8 performances in 4 cities, starting with a performance at Tokyo’s Nakano Sunplaza on June 28th. In addition to Ozzy and Jake, the rhythm section of Bob Disley and Tommy Aldridge, as well as Don Airey’s keyboard, made up an attractive lineup that was well received by fans, and the tour was filled with enthusiasm. It has begun. However, immediately after the show on June 29th (included on the press CD title “DEFINITIVE BARKS”), Don Airey left the band, so the remaining six performances were to be held without the keyboard. This was a rare performance in Japan during his solo career. This work is a live performance at Shibuya Public Hall on July 7th, the last day of the tour, and is made into a disc directly from the original cassette master recorded by Miracle Man. This day’s performance is known from the previously released bonus title “TOKYO FINAL 1984”, but while that was an incomplete version from the middle of the live performance, this sound source starts from the opening with “Carmina Burana” and ends at the show end. Completely recorded. The recording from “row 20, number 7 on the first floor,” which is written on the accompanying ticket replica, naturally surpasses previous releases in many respects, such as the brightness and spaciousness of the sound, and the well-balanced outline of the performance. Superb audience sound. You can enjoy this rare band ensemble that only came to Japan (after the middle), which was performed by the four-piece formation of Ozzy, Jake, Bob, and Tommy, with a wonderful live recording that is both easy to listen to and powerful. Immediately after the disc was played, the venue was filled with applause, cheers, and excitement. The majesty of the opening BGM “Carmina Burana” also heightens the excitement of the audience, and the loud cheers immediately after Ozzy appears are captured with a wonderful sense of realism that makes you want to say, “As expected of Miracle Man!” From “I Don’t Know” and “Mr. Crowley” at the beginning of the live performance, which were not previously recorded, Jake’s sharp guitar is amazing, waking up the listener! These songs have the impression that they would not be possible without a keyboard, but Jake’s technical playing breathes new life into the songs with just the guitar. Especially listening to the intro of “Mr. Crowley”. This scene, reconstructed with an ensemble centered around the guitar, will captivate listeners with classical phrases reminiscent of Randy Rhoads. Even in the song, Jake repeats unrestrained phrasing like a fish out of water, and is very active in the backing and solo. For the fans at the venue who wanted to hear Jake’s guitar, even Don’s departure may have been “rather lucky”. “Rock ‘N’ Roll Rebel” was the first song featured on this day, followed by “Bark At The Moon,” which also features Jake’s signature flashy, gorgeous, and sharp guitar sound. “Moon” is truly amazing! Ozzy’s vocals are also in good condition, and he will give a performance suitable for the last day of his visit to Japan. The medley of “Revelation (Mother Earth)” and “Steal Away (The Night)” in the middle of the live performance also feels like a keyboard is essential, just like “Mr Crowley”, but here too Jake uses his natural technique and versatility. I deal with this by using different effectors. “Center Of Eternity”, which had a keyboard solo in the intro, can also confirm the arrangement only at this time, starting from Tommy’s drum. You will feel that the straight and simple play enhances the original charm of this song (Tommy’s drum solo that flows from the song can also be enjoyed without cutting in this recording). Jake’s guitar solo that continues from “Suicide Solution” is one of the biggest listening points in this recording. He delivers a heavy and ever-changing tone, receiving a huge ovation from the audience. Bob’s bass supporting Jake is also a solid and tasteful play, and you can’t miss it here. From “Flying High Again” to “Iron Man” and the last of the main set, “Crazy Train”, you will forget that there is no keyboard. You can clearly see that the solid and well-honed performance meshes well with these heavy songs. At the end, “Paranoid” explodes, closing the live with great excitement and enthusiasm. The ending BGM and end-of-show announcements are also included (although only in part), allowing you to listen to the entire story of the final day of the tour. In this live performance, Jake’s youthful and fresh guitar goes wild over the veteran’s tight and steady rhythm. A series of great performances that will make you think, “If Jake was there, wouldn’t the keyboard be unnecessary?” The entire performance is worth listening to! In 1983, when Japan’s metal boom was about to reach its peak, it can be said that it is extremely significant that “Emperor” Ozzy performed a live show that condensed the charm of heavy metal. This work, which vacuum-packs that special live performance with the highest quality sound, is definitely a must-listen for all metal fans.
