Description

Ozzy Osbourne, who overcame the tragedy of Randy Rhoads, welcomed Brad Gills as a new guitarist in the second half of the “DIARY OF MADMAN” tour, and the Memphis, Tennessee performance on April 28th will be released on CD using the best and longest newly excavated stereo soundboard sound source to date! This work is the pinnacle of the ’82 Memphis performance, and is the decisive one that ends the role of all the titles already released on the same day! Ozzy Osbourne, who lost Randy Rhoads in a tragic plane accident on March 19, 1982, will resume the remaining dates of the “DIARY OF A MADMAN” tour from April 1st, supported by Sharon Arden. After Bernie Torme, who was in the band for about two weeks, Brad Gills, who joined as a successor, will skillfully reflect his own phrasing and playing in the songs while protecting the image of the band sound left by Randy, and will get through the live performances in various places brilliantly. He made a great contribution to the band in helping Ozzy overcome what could be called the biggest crisis of his career. Recently, there have been many works that allow you to enjoy the Blood era, especially the recordings from the band’s Japan tour. Items that will impress even enthusiasts have appeared, such as “BLOODY DIARY,” which contains the Tokyo premiere on July 14th with the best audience source recorded by “Miracle Man,” and the document title “FACING OZZY,” which packages the second day in Tokyo on July 15th with three high-quality live recordings. However, it is also true that for many fans, “a soundboard is more ideal than an audience recording.” If there is a line source among the limited sound sources, it is natural that interest will be drawn to that first. In that sense, the first choice for collector’s items in this Blood era is the performance at the “Mid-South Coliseum” in Memphis, Tennessee on April 28th during the US tour. This live performance, recorded and broadcast by the radio music program “Captured Alive,” has been produced in many items since before, mainly using air checks. “MID SOUTH NIGHTMARE” was the first to throw a stone into the sea of items. The main feature of this work is that it is made directly from the original broadcast master (THE SOURCE: NBC82-26) at the time, and the quality that sets it apart from the air check sound source allows you to enjoy the regular live performances of the time with official-class sound, and has gained great support from many fans. The sound source newly discovered overseas this time is a completely new broadcast master master that is different from “MID SOUTH NIGHTMARE”! It was an amazing master that included all the intros and outros that could not be heard in the above sound source, as well as the MC between songs (mainly in the latter half of the live) that were cut by fades, etc., and had excellent sound quality. In this work, the master master has been remastered, noise has been removed, and ease of listening has been improved, and it has been made into a CD with a recording time of about 80 minutes, which is longer than any other previously recorded source (by the way, “MID SOUTH NIGHTMARE” is about 74 minutes long). It has been completed as a new standard of the Brad era that all fans can be satisfied with without complaint! In the previous release, “Over The Mountain” started immediately as soon as the disc was played, but in this work, in addition to the announcement by two male DJs, the opening intro “Diary Of A Madman” from that time is firmly included, so you can enjoy the live performance at that time in a more accurate form. And above all, the difference is the sound full of dynamism. The mix of this sound source is different from the previous releases including “MID SOUTH NIGHTMARE”, and not only the clarity unique to the broadcast master direct, but also the playing of each member is recorded with a surprisingly clear tone. In particular, Brad’s guitar and Tommy Aldridge’s drums, which jump out with a realistic three-dimensional effect, are full of a sense of existence that makes it seem like the previous releases, which had a somewhat flat impression, are a lie. The direct feeling and powerful performance backed by this sound are frightening, and “Mr. Crowley”, which has an overflowing dignity, should be said to be a super sound that exceeds the official material of the same period! Brad has only been with the band for about two weeks, but he has already become an indispensable member of the band, and we can hear a solid ensemble. Although his personality is different from the classical Randy, he shows a very high level of playing in “Revelation (Mother Earth)” and “Steal Away (The Night)”, and his unique style that makes heavy use of arm is fully asserted in each song and guitar solo part. Ozzy’s vocals are generally quite good, although there are some parts where they are off or off as usual. The rough singing of “Crazy Train” and the languid heaviness of “Suicide Solution” seem to reflect his inner state at that time. Rudy’s moving, slappin’ bass and Tommy’s drums, which are multi-tasking and pounding, are also active throughout the album, and the speedy “Idon’t Know” and the heavy “Believer” are full of enjoyment. In contrast to those songs, the scene change in “Goodbye To Romance”, where the performance is full of heaviness and then wrapped in a gentle warmth, is also typical of Ozzy. This song, featuring Don’s beautiful playing, is a major highlight of the live show. After the live show is closed with three consecutive BLACK SABBATH numbers, “Iron Man”, “Children Of The Grave”, and the encore “Paranoid”, you can listen to about one minute of previously unreleased announcements. The 80 minutes of this work are packed with entertainment that can only be found in a broadcast master sound source, to the limit of the disc capacity! “SPEAK OF THE DEVIL”, which became Ozzy’s first official live album as a solo artist, was an unusual work in which all the songs were SABBATH numbers (also a means of spite towards SABBATH sung by Ronnie). Considering that fact, this work, which contains the regular live show with the best sound, is truly a replacement for the official one. The quality is so good that it makes you wonder, “Why did this stay asleep without being officially released?” The soundboard sound source that fans are astonished at is now available on CD! Don’t miss out on this “true SPEAK OF THE DEVIL” that will leave a strong impact on not only Ozzy fans but all metal fans! Live at Mid-South Coliseum, Memphis, TN.
