Description

The phantom Joe Holmes era, which did not leave a single official album. The classic soundboard, which was also a symbol of that era, has evolved to the ultimate level. This is the birth of an absolute work that serves as an official substitute. This work contains the “Phoenix performance on April 13, 1996”. It is a superb stereo soundboard recording. The Holmes era lasted for about five years, and the masterpiece pro shot “LUSTRUM OF HOLMES” has become a standard. This is a good opportunity, so let’s first take a bird’s-eye view of the activities and check the positional relationship of each. 1995: Alex Skolnick’s audition, June 9: Nottingham performance, Skolnick replaced Joe Holmes, August 19-December 31 (46 performances) ←※LUSTRUM OF HOLMES 1996 (118 performances) ←★here★ 1997 (23 performances) 1998: Holmes replaced Zakk Wylde, February 12-March 5 (11 performances), Zak replaced Holmes, May 23-August 2 (23 performances) 1999: None 2000 (32 performances) ←※LUSTRUM OF HOLMES, Joe Holmes leaves and goes on to produce DOWN TO EARTH This is an outline of the Joe Holmes era. In between, there was a reorganization of BLACK SABBATH and many changes in the rhythm section, but it would be too long to list them all, so I’ve narrowed it down to the changes in solo guitarists only. While “LUSTRUM OF HOLMES” was a pro-shot set at the very beginning/late stage, this Phoenix performance was the most active in “1996”. This year is also memorable for being the only visit to Japan during the Holmes era. Let’s focus on the schedule further, along with the change of rhythm section. Details of 1996 {Mike Inez/Randy Castillo} January 4th-February 29th: North America #1 (31 performances) {Robert Trujillo/Mike Bordin} March 8th-16th: Japan (3 performances) ←※ BUDOKAN 1996 FINAL April 13th-August 5th: North America #2 (58 performances) ←★Here★ August 17th: Monsters of Rock appearance September 14th-November 3rd: North America #3 (25 performances) … and so on. This work is the first day of “North America #2”. In other words, it was the first concert immediately after coming to Japan. As mentioned above, this show was broadcast on FM, and the air check has produced many existing groups, which is a big staple. Although this work is the same broadcast, it is not a copy or remaster of the existing groups, but a newly excavated pre-FM master. It is the master sound version of the ultimate gene that has not even been broadcast on the airwaves, let alone dubbing marks! In fact, the quality is a majestic “completely official class”. As usual, Ozzy’s “fuckin'” is covered by the censorship beep, but the sound is definitely the best ever. It has been called the official class for a long time, but it is a pre-FM master with fine details, three-dimensionality, and vivid stereo feeling. Such an official work-class sound depicts the precious full show of the Holmes era. Not only is it longer than “LUSTRUM OF HOLMES”, but there are plenty of repertoires that cannot be heard even in the masterpiece “BUDOKAN 1996 FINAL” of the Japan tour. Let’s compare the two and organize the full set. Sabbath (6 songs) Paranoid: Paranoid / Iron Man / War Pigs (*) Others: Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (*) / Sweet Leaf (★) / Children Of The Grave (★) Solo (12 songs) Randy era: I Don’t Know / Flying High Again (★) / Goodbye To Romance (★) / Suicide Solution / Mr. Crowley / Crazy Train (2 takes) Jake era: Bark At The Moon Zack era: Perry Mason (★ *) / No More Tears (*) / I Just Want You (2 takes) / I Don’t Want To Change The World / Mama I’m Coming Home (2 takes) *Note: The “★” mark indicates a song that could not be heard on the masterpiece pro shot “LUSTRUM OF HOLMES”. The “*” marks are songs that are not included in the masterpiece “BUDOKAN 1996 FINAL” from the Japanese performance. … and so on. In addition to the full soundboard of the Phoenix performance, this work also includes bonus tracks of “I Just Want You”, “Mama I’m Coming Home” and “Crazy Train” from another take. Although the date and time of these three songs are unknown, they are from a different performance from the main Phoenix performance. The pleasure of being able to fully enjoy the Joe Holmes era, which only had “Walk On Water” and “Perry Mason” from the compilation “OZZFEST LIVE”, is irreplaceable. This is the highest peak update of the soundboard album that is truly an “official substitute”. If it weren’t for the beeps, this would definitely have been preserved forever. A superb stereo soundboard recording of the masterpiece of the Joe Holmes era, “Phoenix performance on April 13, 1996”. This is a pre-FM broadcast master of the classic radio broadcast, and the sound that has no dubbing marks or even airwaves is truly official. The bonus tracks “I Just Want You”, “Mama I’m Coming Home” and “Crazy Train” from other performances are also included, making this an absolute replacement for the official Holmes era, when no official albums were released.
