Description
In 1999, while recording a new album, early band members Bonhae and Guigsy left the band. Despite concerns about the band’s future, Noel and Liam held a press conference, stating, “Oasis’ future is secure. This story and its glory will continue.” Soon after, Gem and Andy joined the band as new members. A mini-tour of the US at the end of 1999 likely served as a test run for the new members in preparation for the larger tour planned for the following year, 2000. This release covers the December 1999 US mini-tour. The December 11, 1999 release, previously titled “Helter Skelter Christmas,” featured three spectacular cuts: “Supersonic,” “Champagne Supernova,” and “Helter Skelter.” A later release titled “Helter Skelter Christmas Fixed” filled in the missing parts with a different source, but the audio quality was noticeably different, resulting in a noticeable, hollowed-out sound at the edited sections. It also had a more fatal flaw: the missing opening track of “Champagne Supernova” was not a live performance, but rather a faked version taken from a performance in Philadelphia on December 3, 1999. This release, by contrast, captures the original sound, including Liam’s MC performance, which was missing from the previous release. With the departures of Bonehead and Giggsy, two of Oasis’ earliest bandmates, what was next for them? This complete recording captures the band’s 1999 North American mini-tour, shortly after the addition of new members, a moment that fans worldwide eagerly awaited.
