Description

In the early 1990s, radio still had a strong influence in the UK, and radio was the first place where Oasis tried to record their performance for broadcast before their debut. This was almost 30 years ago, right around this time. It was a time when demos for the first album were already being recorded, and the door to success was open for the band. Oasis recorded four songs for this appearance (they were broadcast after 1994), but all of them were later included in their first album, “DEFINITELY MAYBE”. However, this was a time when they were recording demos for the album, and the number of live shows for the band was not very large. Therefore, the unevenness of the performance is typical of a fledgling band. “Bring It On Down” still lacks power, and you can clearly feel that the band is not fully developed. Tony McCarroll’s drums, whose skills are often criticized (although I don’t think they’re actually as bad as people say), are as bad as you’d expect at this time. Also, songs like “Cigarettes & Alcohol” have a slower tempo than the versions released after their debut, which makes them sound more like T. Rex’s “Get It On,” which is a nice touch. On the other hand, “Shakermaker” already exudes the worldview of the first album, and Liam’s distinctive singing style, which has become his trademark, is clearly visible. It is a performance that is enough to foresee the greatness that would come later. And “Up In The Sky” is an acoustic version similar to the arrangement on the 20th anniversary edition of “DEFINITELY MAYBE,” but here it is Liam’s vocal and his voice is double-tracked, making it an elaborate finish. Therefore, it is difficult to call it a purely studio live performance, but it is a valuable recording that captures Oasis before 1994, when they raised the signal fire of Britpop, and it is also recorded in the best stereo, which is a big plus. Therefore, it was one of the radio recordings that was often chosen for compilations of Oasis’ early recordings, but some of the versions released in real time had low pitch and rough sound quality. Although improved versions have been released since then, this one is from the version that was rebroadcast in 2008 when their last album “DIG OUT YOUR SOUL” was released, so the sound quality is of the official high quality. Although it is only four songs and less than 20 minutes long, it is a high quality CD that contains valuable recordings of early Oasis!
