Description
The 1992 Reading Festival is hailed as Nirvana’s greatest performance ever. However, the official CD/DVD released in 2009 was panned by fans for its flimsy mix, and it hardly captured the performance’s full potential. This time, we’ve taken three existing sources and used a leaked pro-shot video source that offers the best balance of recording time and sound quality. Using cutting-edge AI technology, we’ve remastered and remixed it to perfect sound quality! This brings Nirvana’s performance to life more vividly than any previous release! You can’t talk about rock without hearing Nirvana’s greatest performance! This is a must-listen. The 1992 Reading Night is legendary in rock history, symbolizing the very existence of Nirvana. Experience it in its entirety with this incredible soundboard album, surpassing the official release! This release, of course, features the stereo soundboard recording from the August 30, 1992 Reading Festival performance. This stage is NIRVANA’s most famous and legendary concert, and official video and excerpt CDs are standard…or rather, widely known as the most basic of all. This work is a full live album of this most important stage, a new era’s highest peak update that far surpasses even the official works. What is the true nature of this work? Why was such a feat as surpassing the official feat achieved? To explain these, let’s start with the materials that convey this legendary stage to the present day. The official version that drew the ire of collectors worldwide. Since audience recordings are irrelevant, we will omit them here. There are three main types of line/soundboard recordings from the 1992 Reading Festival: A: BBC-produced broadcast mix. This was produced by the BBC for FM broadcast and mixed by Mithi Adhikari. This is the version of “Tourette’s” included on the official live compilation “FROM THE MUDDY BANKS OF THE WISHKAH.” However, it is an incomplete version. B: Leaked Pro-Shot Version: This is the soundboard audio of the complete pro-shot master that leaked 20 years ago. This was released before the official CD/DVD was released and was mixed by Andy Rose. C: Official Product Version: This is the version from the most famous official CD/DVD, “LIVE AT READING.” Released in 2009, it was mixed by Nathaniel Kunkel (Russ Kunkel’s son). With the release of the official “C” version in 2009, everything was supposed to be settled… but that wasn’t the case. In fact, the official mix has a very bad reputation among collectors worldwide. It’s not just “not great” or “disappointing,” but has sparked dangerous anger, with people saying things like “Nathaniel is a bastard with zero talent” and “He should just be destroyed.” That anger is certainly understandable. First of all, the official “C” version contains cuts and is not a complete recording. What’s even more critical is that the official mix of “C” is incredibly flat, lacking in width and dynamism. The drums are particularly bad, a light, smack-dab sound with no real impact or momentum. Of course, if you’re only familiar with “C” from the start, you might think, “That’s how it is,” but many enthusiasts had already experienced Reading with “A,” and were left thinking, “Wow, they’ve ruined that wonderful sound!” In fact, “A” was truly amazing. If you have the official “LIVE AT READING” and “FROM THE MUDDY BANKS OF THE WISHKAH” copies, I urge you to compare “Tourette’s.” I’m sure you can empathize with the enthusiasts’ anger. However, “A” also had an unavoidable flaw: it was far from a full show. Apparently, the original broadcast time slot was 60 minutes, and there was no longer a version. This dream full live album, born from cutting-edge AI technology, represents the most legendary stage performance in history, yet there is no definitive version… This frustrating history is finally over. This work was created to bring an end to it. It’s a complete live album remixed using cutting-edge AI technology based on “B.” As you may know, the AI we use isn’t generated from scratch. It’s demixed by breaking down the audio source into multiple tracks and editing techniques to recreate the sense of balance of the official release. The sound you hear is 100% NIRVANA’s live performance. To put it simply, this work’s contents are “material = B” and “goal = the complete version of A.” First, the soundboard audio from “B” was demixed into 10 tracks (ride cymbal, hi-hat, crash cymbal, kick drum, snare drum, toms, bass drum, vocals, guitar, and cheers). Each track was then mastered separately and reassembled (remixed) in three dimensions. The key to this track-by-track mastering and remixing is that it’s not self-serving. The long-loved “A” serves as the blueprint, and every element—the tone, positioning, and depth of each instrument—is recreated in line with “A.” The AI’s power is particularly evident in the reverb. “B” originally had a strong reverb, but the reverb was removed using demixing. Then, using AI trained on “A,” the reverb is applied back to the raw, dry sound. Nirvana’s masterpiece transcends all expectations, and the resulting Reading Night is truly a masterpiece that transcends the official sound. The “sound” of the BBC broadcast that made Redding legendary permeates the full show, instantly dispelling the anger stirred up every time you play the official CD/DVD. Not only does the performance itself sound completely different from the official version, but the powerful sound has been expanded to 98 minutes and 40 seconds, further enhancing the heat and chaos. This album was created in pursuit of the dream of how amazing the complete version of that sound would be, but the resulting full live album surpasses even that dream. It’s often the case that “it turned out better than I expected,” but I never imagined it would end up being this good. This highest-level update far surpasses the original goal… Indeed, this is arguably NIRVANA’s greatest masterpiece, transcending both official and unofficial records. This is a superb stereo soundboard recording of the August 30, 1992, performance at the Reading Festival. The leaked pro-shot soundboard audio has been remixed with the latest AI technology. The sound of the legendary BBC broadcast has been fully realized. This masterpiece allows you to fully experience NIRVANA’s iconic stage performance with a more three-dimensional, dynamic, and superior sound than the much-maligned official DVD version.
