Description
Kurt Cobain, who revolutionized the music world, passed away at the age of 27. A valuable demo album left behind in that short life is now available. This work includes a treasured demo take that is said to have been recorded by Kurt at his home. This is a compilation album that includes a total of 47 takes (+α) over a period of 2 hours 20 minutes 48 seconds, from when he was 19 years old, before NIRVANA was formed, until just before his death. It was created by a world-renowned enthusiast known for his NIRVANA research. Although there are some familiar takes, this is a top-of-the-line collection that has been reselected from the best existing takes. Now, let’s introduce each one individually. [DISC 1: 1986 (15 takes + 1 take)] FECAL MATTER demo “ILLITERACY WILL PREVAIL” First up is FECAL MATTER’s legendary demo “ILLITERACY WILL PREVAIL”, which Kurt formed with Dale Clover of MELVINS. They were formed in early 1985 and are a legendary unit known for including Buzz Osborne and Greg Hokansson. Although he never recorded any official work, he made a demo on Thanksgiving Day 1986 (probably March 30th) at Kurt’s aunt Marie Earl’s house on a 4-track recorder. That’s this recording. Buzz and Greg didn’t participate in this demo, and Dale was in charge of the bass and recorded just with Kurt. “Spank Thru” and “Downer”, which later became part of NIRVANA’s repertoire, were also played, and Krist Novoselic liked this song, which led to the formation of NIRVANA. Riff Demo: Another demo left by Kurt, who was 19 years old at the time. It was recorded at home, with Kurt alone recording various riff ideas. [DISC 1: 1987-1988 (7 takes)] The second half of Disc 1 is a collection of 7 takes of Kurt’s home demo when he was 20/21 years old. The exact recording date is not known, but Kurt sings alone while playing the guitar. At this point, the template for early NIRVANA was completed, and they played not only the numbers discovered in the box “WITH THE LIGHTS OUT” but also songs from later albums such as “About A Girl” and “Polly.” [DISC 2: 1987-1988 (4 takes)] The beginning of disc 2 is a continuation of disc 1. I recorded 4 takes of my home demo when I was 20/21 years old. It’s a delicious demo of songs that you can’t hear on “WITH THE LIGHTS OUT”, such as “Black and White Blues” and “Creation,” which are played with acoustic guitar. [DISC 2: 1987 SKID ROW demo (14 takes)] The main disc 2 will be joined by Krist Novoselic & Aaron Burkhart, but the band name is still in flux and they call themselves “SKID ROW”. A demo from when I was there. There are times when Kurt sings alone, but most of the time it’s a trio practicing as a band. By this time, I was completely NIRVANA. Their early repertoire was performed one after another, including their debut single “Love Buzz”. It is no exaggeration to call it “pre-BLEACH” with 14 takes. In such a situation, the last song “Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves” is a song that cannot be heard even on “INCESTICIDE” and “WITH THE LIGHTS OUT”. Although it is playful, it is a repertoire that allows you to feel close to the bands of the time. [DISC 2: Home demo after “BLEACH” in 1990 (2 takes)] We are finally entering the 90’s when they became the next generation’s darlings. Contains the “Verse Chorus Verse” from the summer of 1990, during the production of “NEVERMIND”, and the demo of “Pennyroyal Tea” from the winter of 1990. The former is played by Kurt, and the latter is performed in a duo with Dave Grohl. [DISC 2: 1991-1992 home demo after “NEVERMIND” (3 takes)] This is also a demo before and after “NEVERMIND”. Three tracks were recorded from the spring of 1991, when the album was completed, to the fall of 1992, when the world was turned upside down. In addition to “Old Age”, which was discovered in “WITH THE LIGHTS OUT”, he plays “Low Rider” and unreleased songs whose names have not been determined. [DISC 2: 1994 home demo after “IN UTERO” (1 take)] Times have progressed further, and Kurt’s last demo “Do Re Mi” is also included. After all, it is a treasured take that allows you to enjoy the intimacy of the home recording of the singing voice from a few months before his death, played on an acoustic guitar. [DISC 2: Bonus Track (1988)] This is the demo recorded at home, but this work also includes one take of a bonus track. This is a valuable commercial, “Capitol Lake Jam,” from when their debut single “Love Buzz” hadn’t even been released yet. That’s all 48 takes. This is a two-disc set of Kurt’s home recordings from the legendary unit FECAL MATTER to his final years just before his death. A number of hidden treasures that make you feel closer to the human “Kurt Cobain”, rather than the darling of the times that you can feel in his albums and live performances. This is one of the most famous products that allows you to experience these at the highest level of sound.
