Description

The definitive edition that is absolutely essential to know about NIGHT RANGER’s later activities in the ’80s will be released on CD, which fans have been waiting for! From the 1988 US tour after the release of “MAN IN MOTION”, the performance on December 18th in San Diego, California, is a superb stereo soundboard based on the local broadcast master! A must-listen for ’80s American rock enthusiasts! After making their album debut with “DAWN PATROL” in 1982, NIGHT RANGER’s subsequent albums “MIDNIGHT MADNESS” and “7 WISHES” also received high praise. Both were highly supported by fans. They accumulated hits, especially with melodic numbers such as “Sister Christian” and “Sentimental Street”, and had successfully performed in Japan three times by 1986. As a result of this strong image of “a band that made hits with sophisticated songs”, record companies began to constantly ask the band for ballads. However, while their fourth album “BIG LIFE” released in 1987 was a work that successfully developed the NIGHT RANGER style up to that point, they were not blessed with hits with ballads like this, and the band’s internal unity became disorganized. The contradictions within the band surfaced in their fifth album “MAN IN MOTION”. In this album, the involvement of outside songwriters became stronger, and Alan “Fitz” Gerald, who had supported the band, left the band during the production of the album. After the tour, Jack Blades also left, and in April 1989, after the tour, the band was finally forced to disband. As a result, “MAN IN MOTION”, which became the last album of the ’80s, was not generally highly acclaimed. However, the content of the songs was of good quality, and it contained excellent numbers compared to previous works. What is even more underrated is the live performance at that time. The tour with Jesse Bradman on keyboards instead of Alan was limited in the types of items, and the live performance is almost unknown. This work is a recording of the San Diego performance on December 18th from that precious ’88 live show, carefully remastered from the excellent broadcast sound source master! Enjoy the NIGHT RANGER live show, full of “one-off” charm, for about 80 minutes, including many excellent masterpieces, the “MAN IN MOTION” number that was only available at that time, and hard performances that are not just ballads! This sound source is based on a live broadcast by the local San Diego radio station “KGB-FM Radio”. The sound quality is excellent from the opening band introduction, and the clarity, power, and balance of the sound are more than enough for a sound source from 25 years ago. The pitch, which was low in the original sound source, is of course adjusted normally. The sound quality correction brings out the band’s unique characteristics, allowing you to relive an even more colorful and fun live experience. The listening experience is perfect from the beginning, when two songs from the masterpiece “MIDNIGHT MADNESS”, “Touch Of Madness” and “When You Close Your Eyes”, are played in succession. Although the album was a more pop and softer direction, it is clear that the band itself was still giving off a hard edge and sound at this time. The title song from the new album, “Man in Motion,” also fits the flow of the live performance. The smash hit “Sentimental Street” and the medley “Don’t Start Thinking (I’m Alone Tonight)” are the highlights of the first half of the live performance. The melodic tunes will delight the fans. The middle part of the show is also irresistible, with “Sing Me Away” and the hard and catchy “This Boy Needs To Rock” piling up! The refreshing tunes and sophisticated melodies of “Let Him Run,” “Goodbye,” and “Reason To Be” are the highlights of the middle part! The live performance finally reaches its climax with the band’s representative masterpiece, “Sister Christian.” Brad Gills’ guitar also shows his characteristic sharpness in “Night Ranger” and “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me”, and the audience’s emotions are instantly heated up by the masterpieces from the first album! The encore is the usual “(You Can Still) Rock In America”, and the excitement ends at its peak! After the “MAN IN MOTION” tour ended, NIGHT RANGER announced their disbandment in April 1989, when Jack Blades left the band. The band went on hiatus until their reunion in 1996. As the final album of their activities in the 1980s, this album is an extremely important one. If you are a fan of the band, or a fan of 1980s American rock, please take this opportunity to enjoy this album that you cannot miss. Live at Bacchanal, San Diego, CA.
