Description
NICK MASON’S SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS has scaled up and returned to their home country. Three live albums from their latest UK tour will be released simultaneously. This is the first of them. It is a masterpiece audience recording of the first day of the UK tour, “April 29, 2019 Cardiff performance”. Until recently, we have been reporting on the North American tour in real time, but since the stage has moved, let’s start with the full picture of their activities. ●2018 May 20-24: UK #1 (4 performances) September 2-21: Europe #1 (15 performances) September 23-29: UK #2 (6 performances) ●2019 March 12-April 22: North America (28 performances) April 29-May 4: UK #3 (5 performances) ←★Here★ July 3-27: Europe #2 (15 performances) This is the schedule that has been announced so far. Nick is turning 75, but the North American tour was run through at an incredible pace. After a one-week break, they held a mini tour of five performances. Now, that has also been completed. This work is the opening live album. This work is a very tasteful audience recording. Although it is not the type that can be called “like a sound board”, its core is solid and has a thick feel. And the sense of space is strange. Although the sound has a realistic warmth that is typical of audience recording, there is almost no time lag in the sound transmitted from the PA to the microphone. Although the tone is sepia-like like a vintage recording, the presence of space is strangely sparse. It is an intimate sound that makes you feel the presence of SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS up close. The audience noise makes that feeling even stronger. Up until now, North American tours have been very exciting in various places, and most of the shows have been cheered on and whistled even during the performance. In contrast, the Cardiff performance of this work is very quiet. Of course, the masterpiece recordings we introduce in our shop are all ones with suppressed audience noise, so even though it was a North American tour, it was not a hindrance. However, this work is not on that level. The audience’s attitude itself is different, listening carefully to the masterpieces of early FLOYD, and maintaining silence as if to savor each sound. Of course, the venue is also excited between songs, but there is a cool mood that is different from enthusiasm. Only God knows whether SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS’ performance in Japan will be realized, but if it is realized, the atmosphere at the scene will be like this… It is a show of such concentration and respect. Such a sound depicts a show that has been scaled up after North America. As mentioned above, this is the third UK tour, but it boasts the largest number of songs ever. Since it is the first shot of the re-start, let’s re-post the set contents here. ●60’s singles (3 songs) Arnold Layne, See Emily Play, Point Me At The Sky●”The Piper At Dawn (4 songs)” Interstellar Overdrive, Astronomy Domine, Lucifer Sam, Bike●”Mystery (5 songs)” Let There Be More Light, Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun, A Saucerful Of Secrets, Remember A Day (from North America), Vegetable Man (outtake)●”More (2 songs)” The Nile Song, Green Is The Colour●”Atom Heart Mother (2 songs)” If, Atom Heart Mother●”Meddle (2 songs)” Fearless, One Of These Days●”Shadow of the Clouds (3 songs)” Obscured By Clouds, When You’re In, Childhood’s End (from North America) It is as follows. There are more “Remember A Day” and “Childhood’s End” than last year’s UK show, and the song order is the same as the North American tour. Although changes were expected with the triumphant return, it was rather a show of a style that brought back the success of the North American tour as it was. SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS delivered a large number of the greatest hits ever to their fans in their home country. This is the first live album that depicts the first day with a wonderful sound. Some people may find it difficult to complete their vast recording collections from around the world, but you can experience their evolution just in the UK. “UK #1” is the start of the project, and “UK #2” is the development period when they started touring. And this “UK #3” is the period when the largest set ever was also a skilled and fulfilling one. An indispensable piece for such a UK collection.
