Description
In 2019, NICK MASON’S SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS conquered North America and returned to its main battlefield in Europe. The best live album born from the final stage of that world tour is now available. This work includes “Amsterdam performance on July 23, 2019”. They recently finished their world tour, and this is their latest report. For an overview of their activities, please refer to the explanation of “UMBRIA JAZZ FESTIVAL 2019 (Amity 566)” released simultaneously this week, but here we will take a closer look at the show position from the details of the latest European tour. ・July 3rd “ULM 2019” ・July 5th “AUGST 2019” ・July 6th-16th (6 performances) ・July 17th “UMBRIA JAZZ FESTIVAL 2019” ・July 18th-21st ( 3 performances) ・July 23rd: Amsterdam performance ←★This work ・July 25th: Prague performance ・July 27th: Warsaw performance This is the European tour that just ended. As of now, this is the only schedule that has been announced, and the activities for 2019 are expected to end with the above. This work is the fourth work of the final European tour, and is a live album that recorded the third performance from the end. This work, which recorded such a show, is a superb and neat audience recording. Recently, it has become customary to classify them into three types: “clear type,” “dynamic type,” and “mood type,” and if you follow that, this work is the “dynamic type.” This type has a strong and vivid core similar to that of a soundboard, while a slight hall sound brings power to the midrange and deep bass, creating a dynamic sound world. In fact, this “dynamic type” is the most popular, but the uniqueness of this work is that its sound is extremely neat and gives a sense of elegance. The sound that rises like an aura without hiding its details is so delicate and smooth as velvet that you can even feel the vibrations in the air. The sound of its elegant and melting beauty is pierced by a clear core, right down to the outline, and it jumps into your ears without giving you any sense of distance. While it has a quality that is worthy of being called “just like a sound board,” it is a masterpiece recording full of beauty that can only be achieved if it is an audience recording. The reason for this is of course the skill of the recorder and exquisite positioning, but this elegance may be due to the venue. The “RAI Theater” where the scene took place is a 1,750-seat theater located in one of Europe’s largest conference complexes. It is a facility that boasts a long history, having opened in 1961, and has become the face of the Netherlands, a trading powerhouse. This is perfect for SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS. The venue seems to embody the concept of reviving the sound world of the 1960s with a modern sound, and while the clarity of the latest recording is outstanding, the elegance of Europe, which loves tradition, is hidden in the beautiful sound. SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS left behind a large amount of masterpiece recordings that are comparable to each other in Europe in 2019, but this work is probably the best in terms of “beauty”. And the early FLOYD numbers drawn with that sound are the height of maturity. The largest and most complete set following the North American tour is rock-solid, and the ensemble has reached an impregnable level. What’s more, the schedule includes days off before and after, so there’s no leeway or slack. Furthermore, Amsterdam is a place where they had a huge success at the beginning of last year’s European tour, which would have given them confidence. All the conditions are met, and it is a masterpiece that has been exactly as possible. SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS in 2019 achieved a remarkable leap forward, conquering not only Europe but also North America. This is Mion’s masterpiece where you can experience the best of the European tour, which can be called the triumphant return tour. This is a masterpiece of a live album that will make you can’t wait to enjoy the open feeling of Warsaw on the final day, which may appear in the future.
