Description
THE NICE is a legendary group that made the name of the unparalleled genius Keith Emerson known to the world, and spread the seeds of followers all over the world with an influence (in a sense) greater than that of EL&P. Introducing the definitive edition that is a collection of multi-camera professional shots. There may be no group more underrated than THE NICE. The entertainment that easily overturns the conventional wisdom of rock that “the guitar is the main character” and brings jazz, classical, and contemporary music into rock music is truly “Columbus’ egg.” The impact spread throughout Europe before EL&P appeared, and became the source of followers in various countries such as LE ORME, TRIUMVIRAT, PELL MELL, ELECTRA, COLLEGIUM MUSICUM, etc. It was also the starting point for embodying “easy-to-understand fun” in “progressive rock,” which is often dominated by big-headed thinking. However, it is not true that THE NICE gained popularity through a large-scale world tour. Because they quickly evolved into EL&P, most of their stages are in their home country of England. Rather, it was their albums and appearances on TV and other media that spread their innovation and appeal. This work is a collection of professional shots of THE NICE’s TV appearances. Also, strangely enough, as of 2019, it is a DVD that has all the best versions that have been released one after another. There are seven types of TV programs included in this work. All of them are professional shot videos that are standard for enthusiasts, but they are all masters who have achieved the highest peak in each. Now let’s introduce them individually. [First half: West German broadcast (3 programs)] ●HITS A GO GO (2 episodes in 1968/1969) The 7 programs included in this work are divided into two main parts, and the first half is West German broadcast. The opening scene is a professional shot from two episodes of the famous program “HITS A GO GO.” As you can imagine from the fact that it is placed at the beginning, the biggest point of this performance is quality. All of the masters recorded in this work are of the highest quality official quality, but this video is truly amazing. The details are not known, but there are no dubbing marks or deterioration over time. This visual beauty is the master of the station…even if you look at it modestly, it’s probably a digital rebroadcast. A level of beauty that cannot exist anywhere else. Two episodes from this program are included: “September 1968 (America)” and “November 12, 1969 (Country Pie/Hang On To A Dream),” but especially the beginning of 1968 is in full color. It is a beautiful video whose vividness is eye-catching. And the inside is also amazing. The opening go-go dance bursts with a sense of the times, and “Hang On To A Dream” progresses at the same time as a horror movie-like skit. Of course, the important live performance is amazing, and in “America”, young Keith’s fingertips extending from the gold sleeves dance brilliantly, stabbing a knife into the organ and jumping over it even though it was a studio live performance. In 1969, there are songs such as “Country Pie” and “Hang On To A Dream”, so you can see a lot of Lee Jackson, but the main character is still Keith. You can enjoy the young maestro’s great performance with multiple cameras. ●STAR-CLUB (1969) The third “STAR-CLUB” was also broadcast in West Germany. This is also a superb master that is black and white, but even the graininess of the film is clear. “HITS A GO GO” was a studio live performance at the broadcasting station, but this is a Hamburg concert video showing “Rondo”. It’s a news-style video with German narration (slightly) overlapping it. [Second half: French broadcast (4 programs)] ●BOUTON ROUGE (2 episodes in March/April 1968) The second half includes four types of French TV professional shots. First, the phantom music program “BOUTON ROUGE” will appear. This program was broadcast for only about one year from April 1967 to May 1968, and was called “TV’s first rock magazine.” THE NICE appeared twice in the latter half of the show, “March 23, 1968 (Rondo)” and “April 20, 1968 (Azrael)”. The former is in monochrome, and the latter is in full color, and you can see a great performance, but what’s even more important is the guitarist. David Oristo is playing the guitar in the back of the screen! The footage of THE NICE is already valuable, but you can see the early four-person era in multi-camera professional shots. Keith goes wild as he struggles with the organ, while the orist silently watches the rhythm. It is a valuable footage that clearly shows that he was the only one floating, and that his departure was a natural progression. ●FORUM MUSIQUES (November 1968) Next, they appeared on the TV program “FORUM MUSIQUES” after becoming a trio. It is a famous program for PINK FLOYD, but THE NICE appeared on “November 20, 1968,” which was the time when “Shonen Yi Lao Gaku Densei” was released. They are performing studio live performances of three songs in monochrome: “Brandenburger,” “America,” and “She Belongs To Me.” At first, the performance was relatively calm, perhaps because they were playing in front of an audience that was silently sitting on a podium in a simple studio, but when “America” started to heat up, they couldn’t hold it back. Keith stabs him with a knife and goes wild. You can enjoy watching the three performers engage in lively interplay while looking at each other’s performance rather than the audience. ●DIM DAM DOM (March 1969) The last thing that appears is once again a beautiful full-color video. This is the French TV program “DIM DAM DOM” that appeared on “March 1, 1969”. There is a lot of black and white in the middle of this film, but this video is truly beautiful. Like the opening “HITS A GO GO (1968)”, it can only be thought of as a station master, and even by modern digital standards, it is a completely official video beauty. And the contents are also extremely colorful. It is a studio live performance of two songs “Intermezzo From The Karelia Suite” and “Rondo”, but a large number of beautiful women in glittering costumes appear there. They are also amazing. In “Intermezzo From The Karelia Suite” it feels like a casual style mannequin dancing, but when it comes to “Rondo” it suddenly becomes a different world. Everyone was glittering and looked like something straight out of “Star Trek” or “The Outer Limits.” He is twisting his body in time with THE NICE’s furious interplay. Of course, Keith is also fighting with the organ with a knife in hand, and a frenzied different space is depicted. Well, the 60’s were truly amazing. Just Jimi Hendrix on the keyboard. Keith Emerson forcefully expanded the possibilities of the keyboard during the dawn of rock. Arrangement, performance, performance…it’s a masterpiece video that allows you to enjoy about an hour of THE NICE, which was filled with the brilliance of the pioneering period. The finest multi-camera professional shot work compiled by the best masters in history. THE NICE – TV ARCHIVES 1968-1969 UPGRADES & RARITIES HUGE UPGRADE!!!
