Description
When it comes to New Barbarians live shows, the CNIB concert is at Largo in May. Although a dubious official release has now been realized, both the soundboard recording and the professional shot video taken with the venue equipment are considered standard items. Interestingly, however, the one that popularized the Barbarians’ live performances before their appearance was also the LP that recorded the Largo performance. That is “BARB WIRED TOUR”. Naturally, it was an audience recording, but although it was hard and lacked thickness, the sound image was surprisingly on. It is definitely an excellent level recording as a sound source in 1979. Moreover, although it is this title, the editing sense that was put together to fit it into one LP is really impressive. The concept is a “Stones number” and “a song sung by Keith.” In other words, it was an edited content that brilliantly extracted the delicious parts of the New Barbarians’ live performance. It received high praise among enthusiasts from the time of its release because of its good sound and easy-to-understand content. However, the charm of this LP does not end there. It is true that the value of this LP and audience recording was halved when the sound board recording of the same day was later discovered, but it was not lost. After all, the sound board recording does not include the last “Jumping Jack Flash”, and on the contrary, it has not been excavated to this day. It was probably not recorded. The performance of Lago’s song can only be heard through this LP and the video audio of the in-venue pro shot footage. That’s when this LP was decided upon. Even after the Lago performance entered the era of soundboards and CDs, only “Jumping Jack Flash” developed into a situation where it was diverted from the LP. This allowed me to survive beyond my expectations. However, Ronnie, who was the lead vocalist on the same song as well as the Stones numbers included on this LP, could not sing at all (partly due to alcohol), and he unexpectedly lost touch with Mick’s greatness. It is true that you will be reminded of this. After the release of this LP, the LP “BREATH ON ME” containing the remaining songs from Largo was also released, but despite the color jacket, it did not attract much attention and is said to be a plain item. I ended up handling it. Not only was the timing of the release bad, but I think one of the reasons was that if you removed Keith’s song and the Stones number from Lago, which had a sloppy performance, the edited content lacked excitement (bitter smile). Isn’t there? For enthusiasts, the nostalgic New Barbarians LP is “BARB WIRED TOUR.” Furthermore, it is sure to feel fresh in that you can enjoy the excitement of the venue, which was rare on the sound board. Since the original is an LP, scratch noise may occur on rare occasions, but the CD has been made into a very clean condition throughout.
