Description
The tape release left behind by Mike Millard, who continues to surprise maniacs around the world every week, the latest sound source was Neil Young’s 1983 solo tour. This is also a performance that was not known to have been recorded by Millard until now, and it is still surprising enthusiasts around the world. Speaking of mirrored recordings that capture Neil’s stage in the 80’s, the popular “COSTA MESA 1989: MIKE MILLARD FIRST GENERATION TAPES” is on sale, but the sound quality of this sound source is not that good. This can be seen from the fact that it was called a “weird tour, weird tape” when it was released. This recording is a first generation copy, but for some reason all the gaps between songs have been cut, and the sound quality is monaural. Furthermore, the range of the sound starts to become narrower around “Don’t Be Denied”, and the range becomes narrower in the second half of the live performance. And “The Old Laughing Lady” played at the opening is not included. That’s why it was called “weird tape.” Based on these factors, I think that although Millard recorded it, he failed to record the first song and it became monaural, so it may not have been widely distributed among traders. However, it is still a valuable sound source of mirrored recording, and the sound image itself is a sufficiently large audience recording. For this release, “The Old Laughing Lady”, which Millard failed to record, was compensated for with “recorder 1”. There are three types of audience recordings on this day including this mirrored recording, but this is the best in terms of sound quality. However, “Recorder 1” also had severe cuts between songs, and the line “thank you Los Angeles” that Neil said after finishing the previous song was supplemented from “Recorder 2”. In terms of sound quality, it is the lowest of the three types, but its only advantage is that there are no cuts between songs. As a result, we were able to reproduce the opening that was lost from the mirrored recording, and also achieved the recording of all songs. This release has solved those problems, but the performance content is the best. Not only is Neil playing the whole song, but unlike his previous songs, it is an attractive selection of songs that include his signature songs. In fact, the selection of songs and the quality of the performance were so well received that they achieved the remarkable feat of performing at Madison Square Garden in February. However, unlike in the 1970s, for example, during “Don’t Be Denied,” footage of Neil and CSNY from the past was projected on the screen, which excited the audience, and during “Old Man,” the banjo sound was played on a sequencer. It was also well-received that it included performances that went beyond just playing and singing. However, although the tour was postponed due to popular demand, Neil developed a severe cold due to going in the winter, and in the end, he was forced to quit due to his poor health. Therefore, the mirrored sound source that captured the stage at Universal Amphitheater on this day, where Neil was in good physical condition and the size of the venue was just right, is perfect for enjoying the 1983 solo tour. Neil Young is not easy to answer. In an unexpected turn of events, the entire performance was sung and sung, but at the end of the live performance they ended with a techno number from the album “TRANS” that had just been released at the time. That’s why it was called “weird tour.” In addition, when techno tunes are played, the sound output from the venue gets louder and the sound of the audience recording tends to be distorted, but as expected, the sound is a little distorted in the last “Computer Age”. Even so, dazzling masterpieces such as “Heart Of Gold”, “Helpless”, and “Ohio” were generously performed, and the venue was actually very excited. This atmosphere can be felt realistically with the success of Mirrored recording. It was a live performance of a series of famous songs that were easy to listen to, and I can see why it was so well received. For the reasons I mentioned at the beginning, this time it will be released on CD-R, but even so, there are no omissions, with even unrecorded songs included!
