Description
Last year, when Neil Young maniacs all over the world had been waiting for “ARCHIVES VOL. What happened is still fresh in my memory. What’s more, for Japanese enthusiasts, the live album “ODEON BUDOKAN”, which includes parts from the first performance in Japan in 1976, was included, so they were even more eager to get their hands on it. It is known to enthusiasts that the concept of the live album “ODEON BUDOKAN” had already been planned by Neil since 1976, and as the title suggests, it was a compilation that was recorded and mixed at Hammersmith Odeon. This was expected, but when it was released, the album itself was only 45 minutes long. That would have been fine, but it turns out that “Cowgirl In The Sand,” which was the highlight of the final day of Budokan, was edited into a shorter version. Although the first performance in Japan was finally officially released, it was not a content that could be enjoyed with all hands. Also, even though it’s an album from the 1976 tour, I wish “Like A Hurricane” had been included. Thanks to these editing contents, the value of the audience recording that completely captured the day’s situation did not decrease at all. However, the current situation is that there are no Budokan items that are readily available. Therefore, this time, the last day of Neil Young & Crazy Horse’s Budokan was released from a treasured audience master that has not been distributed among traders at all. Not only is this a sound source that has never been released before, but the sound quality is truly amazing. For example, if you listen to the acoustic set “Let It Shine”, you will understand that the performance is captured in a very active sound image, and yet the clapping is coming from behind, which is an amazing balance. In addition, the natural feel and freshness of the sound are wonderful, and it’s hard to believe that this is a sound source that has been buried for over 40 years. If it is of this quality, it would not be strange to release it on a press CD, but unfortunately the recording ends in the middle of “Like A Hurricane” and restarts from the middle of “Drive Back”. This is truly something to be missed. However, since the sound quality was very good, they did not give up on releasing the valuable sound source provided this time, and supplemented the subsequent parts with the ancient masterpiece “HURRICANE OVER JUDO ARENA”. As expected, the sound image is not as close as this time’s sound source, but it is still a masterpiece that is famous for its high sound quality, so it is surprisingly stress-free and allows you to listen to the second half of the live performance. Moreover, it is still exceptional to be able to enjoy the original appearance of “Cowgirl In The Sand”, the highlight of the final day of Budokan, which had been shortened with this “ODEON BUDOKAN”, with such superb sound quality. To begin with, “Cowgirl In~” on this day was a short performance of less than 7 minutes, but it is outrageous that it was shortened to less than 5 minutes. It’s also interesting to hear the voices of nearby audience members saying “thank you” at the perfect timing as soon as the song ends. And the familiar scene at Neil’s first performance in Japan, “Southern Man”, is a vivid scene where the surroundings become a mess at the beginning. Even so, the excellent sound quality guarantees that you will have plenty of fun. Here, you can thoroughly enjoy all the performances that were not available on “ARCHIVES VOL.II” on that day, or check out the editing quality of “Cowgirl In~” in question. After all, Neil & Crazy Horse’s first performance in Japan is special.
