Description
Ned Doheny & Hamish Stewart’s Japan performance was held in conjunction with their appearance at “SUMMER SONIC 2018”. The masterpiece original recording is now available. This work was recorded on “August 17, 2018”. When they come to Japan in 2018, they will mainly perform “SUMMER SONIC”, but they will also hold solo performances in Tokyo and Osaka before and after that. This work is an audience recording that records that one act. First, let’s check the show’s position from the schedule.・August 17th: Tokyo 1st Stage ・August 17th: Tokyo 2nd Stage [This work] ・August 18th: SUMMER SONIC ・August 20th: Osaka 1st/2nd Stage ・August 21st: Tokyo 1st/ 2nd stage and above, a total of 7 performances. The solo performances in Tokyo and Osaka were held twice a day, and this work was the 2nd stage on the opening day “August 17th”. This work, which vacuum-packs such a scene, is an intimate audience recording with plenty of closed room feeling. The venue is a small club-sized space, but the feeling of being in a closed room is irresistible. I’m not the type to mistake the sound board, but I can feel the presence of Ned and Hamish right in front of me, and I can feel their singing voices and performances with a tactile sensation. The sound is also absorbed, but because it is physically close, it does not give a sense of distance, but on the contrary, it is transformed into a sense of reality. It is a delicious live album with a private mood that makes you feel as if you are sitting in the rehearsal room. The show drawn with that sound is indescribably deep. Since their visit to Japan was a joint collaboration, they were able to lavishly perform a number of masterpieces that the two have created. Ned played plenty of major songs such as “Get It Up For Love” and “A Love Of Your Own” from the masterpiece “HARD CANDY” and “What Cha’ Gonna Do for Me” which is also famous by Chaka Khan. On the other hand, Hamish looks back on his career to date, including “Work To Do” and “Pick Up The Pieces” from THE AVERAGE WHITE BAND, “Love And Happiness” with David Sanborn, and “Unspoken Love” by HIROSHIMA. They will be showing off a wide variety of repertoire. And the performance that spells out such a set is also good. The two’s singing voices do not seem to have weakened, and they are truly relaxed by each other’s presence. Ned also plays the guitar, alternating between acoustic guitar for his own songs and electric guitar for Hamish’s songs, but having Hamish there gives him more leeway in his playing. Although Hamish seemed nervous when he came to Japan five years ago as a solo performer, this time he seemed to be enjoying the show at ease. In fact, I feel more like Hamish, who has made a name for himself through his collaborations with various artists rather than his solo work. And the back is also great. Drummer Jeremy Stacey is a master who is sought after by many big names such as Joe Cocker, Eric Clapton, Aztec Camera, Sheryl Crow, etc., and was also a master who worked with Noel Gallagher in “SUMMER SONIC”. Also exciting the scene are keyboardists Ross Stanley and Jim Watson. The battle is repeated between the organ and piano, and the exchange of jazzy phrases is very satisfying to listen to. The main characters of this work are Ned and Hamish, but at times they play such an active role that they steal their place. Ned Doheny and Hamish Stewart are the duo that created the famous songs “Whatcha Gonna Do For Me?” and “A Love Of Your Own.” Both of them have come to Japan as solo artists, but their combination shines even more on stage. This work is a precious and wonderful live in Japan of these two people. A masterpiece that not only overflows with famous songs, but also allows you to experience the relaxing scene where allies complement each other with up-close sound.
