Description

This is a precious live recording from March 1969 by the strongest quintet from Miles’ “jazz era,” commonly known as the Lost Quintet. At this time, “In a Silent Way” had already been recorded in a studio session, and in the summer, the most controversial work in jazz history (it’s a masterpiece), “Bitches Brew,” was born, marking a transitional period in which Miles was transformed into the so-called “electric Miles.” This quintet formation continued throughout 1969, but the set list gradually became more rock-like as the “electric Miles” moved from summer to winter. However, the set list recorded in March for this title still had a lot of jazz in it, and “On Green Dolphin Street” was the only one that was performed by this lineup, making it a very rare track. The performance was very intense, and you can hear glimpses of the changes that would come after this. The electric piano writhing and swaying with DeJohnette’s pounding is the best. Although the songs are not fully recorded and the sound quality is not a shiny soundboard, it has been remastered using the best of the existing masters. For jazz fans, it is a valuable item that allows you to experience the “jazz” that has reached the cliffs of the end, and for “electric Miles” fans, it is a valuable item that allows you to experience the Genesis.
