Released over 20 years ago, this February 16, 1984 live performance at Miramas, France, was discontinued due to issues with the old master recording and the use of original sources, including noise. This newly unearthed recording, recorded on a PA console and featuring a master soundboard, has been restored and presented with a finish that will delight both beginners and enthusiasts. This Miramas performance marked the first night of the 1988 tour, marking Daryl Jones’s final performance with Miles Davis’ band. Recorded on a PA console rather than a radio broadcast, the master soundboard recording delivers a pure, unadulterated sound. While overseas enthusiasts have repeatedly stated that “the broadcast recordings do not exist,” and indeed they were not recorded for broadcast, no one would have expected that a PA console recording soundboard owned by tour personnel would exist. Furthermore, the rare track “Wayne’s Tune (Bookends)” is included at the end of the show, making this a definitive release that ranks among the most highly anticipated recordings unearthed in recent years.
